Over the years, my family has owned 9 different diesel Mercedes. 240D, 300D, 300SD (my first car, and my username), and my dad still has his 300SDL. We had a 300SD in that gold color, and like @LeftCoastNerd said, they look like crap when the clear coat fails. But those things were pretty much bulletproof yachts on the road, and the turbo diesels were/are stupid-simple to work on.

Wow, look at the price they tried to sell it at. No wonder they sold so few.

yeah, a Volvo 544. circa 1950s to mid 60s. earliest models were PV 444, but those are really rare. 544 had a 1.6 or 1.8L inline 4 cylinder pushrod engine ("B18"), 4 speed stick shift, rear wheel drive with live axle suspension. that 1800E sports car a few posts up had the same basic drive train. actually, so did the later 'Amazon' (122), 140 family, 240 family (although the engine got incrementally upgraded to SOHC and 2.3L), and the 740 and 940 whcih was made up til the mid 1990s.

Two that should never have been: a Pontiac Torrent and Kia Rondo. The third I would love to have, Saab Sonnet III.

They're actually making the wrangler PU, very small bed though. That third one looks like one of those jungle duty Range Rovers. I'd be into that.

Jeep actually made a forward control variant too. I think the new concept would be amazing. Especially if it were produced with those portal axles. I doubt it would ever pass safety standards though.
