Did your Turd Gen have a loose/undertorqued air intake hoseclamp

I don't know if there is a torque spec out there, but until we know for sure just use your best judgement. The first pic posted at the beginning of the thread is not my truck...I wish my engine bay was that clean. My hose clamp also sits differently, but as long as the notch is indexed correctly you're good.

I updated the thread to include checking torque on both clamps. Lift the plastic engine bay cover up and you'll see it.

@OVTune don't go tuning any of these turd gens without making sure your test subjects are tight.

Fixed JBL audio passender door rattle with felt between door and switch plate. Reseated driver side body mount behind passenger seat to fix annoying clicking/creaking sound.
Build date 04/17 Texas. The clamp closest to the filter box was very loose. It took many turns to get it tight.

Clamp under the engine cover only needed one turn to tighten.

We are all beta testers of this design... thing is you normally get a break on pricing (or free) when you are willing to be a guinea pig... We paid $35k+ to buy an alpha model :) Our fault, apparently

No real pattern I can see with build dates. Mine was 8/16 Baja and the first one was loose as could be, will be checking the other when I return home tomorrow.

Yup, many won't know until their first air filter change and the upper box just plops off the intake hose when the tech or owner separates the halves. It should still seal if the clamp isn't super tight, but not as well as it should with the engine rocking side to side and possibly letting small amounts of dirt or fine grit in.

We'll know who may have been affected in a few years when we start seeing small plumes of bluish white smoke coming out the exhausts of fairly new looking tacos on the street. I wonder what Toyota will do then, for those who may get affected, and didn't know.

For those with clamps that loose, it probably loosened up more as the vibrations and movement from the engine working it's harmonic magic.
These things were likely too gently tightened to start with, or the hose material was compressed to a state and did not expand again, which allowed the the clamps to loosen up further, once the pressure was alleviated from the shrinking/ compression of the hose. Sad Toyota.....

Bigscary Recall #3 probably will be noted as, "Some Tacoma owners with 3.5L with V6's may require intake hose replacement due to possibility of faulty air seal allowing more grit than usual into engine causing accelerated wear on engine components"

I think it affected my overall performance and im interested to see how cleaning my MAF and getting those tight change the truck. Im betting not that much but your MAF is an important factor in how these feel day to day.

    its just toyota being lazy...
