Preload doesn't make the coil rate higher. Just means you're getting coil bind.

IMG_1350.jpg Just got home from MJT. Only photo I took on my phone, have a few more on the camera. All went well for my first trip out there, except for the damn heat. Thanks to @Mike likes Tacos and @eon_blue for leading the way. Good seeing everyone else and meeting a couple new faces.

Great run up at MJT today guys! Thanks for making it another memorable trip :amen:

Got some videos I'll try to post up later tonight.

My truck threw a P0420 code right at the start of the run...'Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold'. Truck seems to be running fine but smells rich...thinking the 7th injector I just put on a few weeks ago is making it run too rich now. Though its been on for a few weeks and no issues (and I wheeled pretty hard last weekend too)...so maybe its related to something else. Hopefully I can figure out how to fix it before I toast my cat converter....

Oh and I took an angle grinder to my pinch welds when I got home, bent them back as best I could. The new KO2s rubbed like a mofo out there today.

Awesome ride. The good news, my t-case is just fine and my drone survived the wreck! And now I'm headed to vegas while my good luck is still around.

On progressive rate springs, which a lot of-road performance coils are, yes it does. If compensating for weight with preload, the spring rate increases with compression, otherwise the spring would fully collapse on itself, bind, and you would be sitting on bumps.

Hmm my bad, I thought we had progress springs. Perhaps I don't quite understand how preload affects weight bearing aspect in our springs. At least from my experience, when I added more weight to my truck I had to add preload for it to cope better, but perhaps I am confusing compression rate with what the spring can hold without compressing.

I'm far from a spring expert, just know a couple things here and there. A lot if people think that adding preload increases the spring rate on our coilovers springs, but in a linear spring rate it remains constant regardless of compression.

I have tried to look around for discussions about lifting/preload/spring rates yadda yadda yadda but every thread on any forum that I find ultimately devolves into an argument about "Hooke's Law" and how everything is related and works.

I was under that same impression for a while too that preload affects spring rate, but just standing back and looking at it logically, if a spring has a linear rate it will not change regardless of how far it's compressed. Seems to be a common misconception, like the "shock reservoirs are for cooling" myth.

All coil springs for 2.5" coilovers are linear.

@anthony250f does shock rebuilds, he can probably help you out. He rebuilt @itaro Kings and his are 700 springs.
