Easy peasy. You will get there before you know it.

Time spent riding your Sportster or fishing is not counted against your allotted time.

    Morning all:
Guess most of you Navy guys have seen the news about the collision involving the USS Fitzgerald and a cargo ship. Looks like 5 injured and 7 missing.
Thoughts and prayers for those sailors involved, makes me wonder how that could even happen.

Amen to that Carl . From what I heard, the Skipper was one of the injured. Prayers that they find the 7 missing sailors. As for how it happened ???. They are saying there was a dense fog, but with all the electronic wizardry they are putting on the ships these days, it might boil down to "Human error".

An 8-year car loan?!? o_O 49% of a family's income going to a single car payment???!!!??? o_Oo_Oo_O Sounds to me like people have their priorites jacked.

We had a couple of pretty bad car crashes near here in the past week. One person drove head-on into a tree at high speed, and was ruled a suicide. That's a pretty strange way to go out if you ask me.

    Afternoon all:
Agree 100% with some having their priorities bass ackwards, hey it's their decision, I think they were talking about 50 yr. home loans awhile back also! o_O

I have often wondered how many "suicide by vehicle" actually occur, possibly more than can be proven.

50 year home loan! You'd have to have your life insurance paid out of escrow too! That's just nuts.

Longest I've gone on a home loan is 25 years. I originally applied for a 30 but while we sitting there filling out the paperwork I noticed they had 20 and 25 year terms. I thought it was 15, 30, or nothing. So I asked them to run the numbers for 25 years, it was just a few dollars more per month. No brainer.

When I worked at HDFS, some dead beat customers complained their loan amount was not going down and we were ripping them off. Pay on time, up your credit score, see what that does. Late fees, high interest because you are a risk, accumulated interest does not lower your principle. Some with this type of paying, ended up paying almost twice what their motorcycle loan was for. They can mechanic on their bike, but are dumb on how financing works.

Interesting topic on loans, everything I ever read concerning home loans was to take a 30 year and put extra money on the principle every month if possible.
That way if something unexpected were to happen you could just pay the lesser amount of the 30 yr. loan, but if things went OK you would have the loan paid off well in advance of the 30 yrs. and thus save a bunch of interest.

Happy Father's Day everyone! Even you whipper-snappers. ;)

Carl, my friend the CPA/CFO said the same thing to me when we were getting our home loan. "Take the longest term you can -- you pay it back with dollars that are worth less, more flexibility in how much to pay, etc. etc." I asked her what term she had. "15 years" she said. "I hate being in debt!" My wife and I did the same thing. My biggest reason was that this was the second time around for both of us and I didn't want to have a mortgage payment deciding whether or not I could retire. We even refinanced once to get a lower rate, which restarts the 15-year clock, but we paid extra so that the last payment fell on the same date as our original mortgage. (Excel is a handy tool!)

Duane you are so right about smart people not being smart financially. I have a buddy who can design HVAC systems for everything from an outhouse to an office building. But can he understand that 29% interest on his credit card balance is murdering him? Nope!
