Incoming TRD Pro / wheel tire advice

I have a cement TRD Pro arriving next week. Dealer agreed to do a wheel/tire, or just tire swap, and charge me the difference between parts. Would you opt for the 17" trd wheels with 265x70x17 BFG KO2's , or keep the stock wheels and go for a 16" tire swap (probably gonna go with the ko2's ) ?

 

All things being equal (KO2 to KO2, slightly oversized over OEM) it's strictly an aesthetic question.

Which one do you like the looks of better? Ultimately only you can make that decision. There's no real performance / utility gain either way for all intents and purposes.

 

Keep the stock wheels and go with the KO2s on them. The glossy finish looks like it is easier to keep clean than the matte black. Trust me dirt and road crime stick on the Sema wheels pretty bad.

 

Hmm... never thought of the dirt issue on the matte wheels. Always thought the matte would look better, but the dirt issue is something to consider.

 

I like the matte black but they do hold dirt and dust. I just don't like the gloss pro wheels. The heavy gloss makes them look like plastic. Just my opinion but get what you like. Can't go wrong either way if you like them. KO'2s are great.

Def go 17" matte black wheels with KO2's. I'm running 285/70/17's, but the choice is yours! Personally I hate glossy, i.e. the glossy factory wheels. I did the same swap and made up the difference! And yes, you will have to do some very very minor trimming of inside the fender wells to get them to fit. That being said I can't even tell the difference of trimmed vs not trimmed.

If you're worried about dirt "sticking" to them use chemical guys Jet seal and seal the wheels when they're clean! No more sticking dirt!

 

Does the jet seal make them semi gloss? I like the matte finish but this sounds like a good idea

 

Use the lightest wheel available with a tire that is designed for the terrain on which your vehicle will spend most of its time. All else is esthetic, and for esthetics only your own opinion matters.

 

I'd keep the stock wheels and go with ko2's in a 275/70/16 so you have have load range D which saves some weight.

 

No, it just seals the wheels. Adds some hydrophobic properties to it along with helps keep the dirt off.

 

I would trade in and pay the difference for the Tacoma PRO rims and tires for a set of 4runner TRD Pro rims and KO2's.

I feel the matte black matches the rest of the truck plastic much better. Nothing on the truck is gloss black. The 4runner rims match grille and fender flares much better. The 8 spoke Tacoma Pro wheel just seems "too busy" inside it. 4runner Pro wheels seem much more visually pleasing.

 

They are but you get used to them. I hated them at first and it was the first thing I wanted to change. For some reason they've grown on me, and being gloss they are a lot easier to keep clean.

 

I didnt buy a $40,000 truck to get used to something I don't like. I suppose I could have gotten used to the stock OR wheels. After all, I cannot see them when I'm driving.

 

Also the 17" 4-runner Pro wheels are 1/5 the cost of the Tacoma Pro wheels... so if you need a matching spare or bash the hell out of them off-roading it won't be that big a deal to replace them

 

Lol true. Well I did buy a 40K+ truck to get used to it so I didn't spend more on something else lol. This was the cheaper option for me as opposed to getting a new 6.2 denali and doing a blower and all that stuff again.

 

They have it at chemical guys and Amazon. They have one specifically for matte black finish. Spendy but will be worth it if it works.

 

You can see the difference here in the pics of just how well it repels dirt on paint. We all went down the same dirt road (Richland RD) and see how much less dirt I have on mine.
