Didn't get stationed on the Forrestal until 1970 when she was in dry dock getting repairs done from the fire. Was stationed(shore duty before shipping out) with an Aviation Ordinance man who was on her that fateful day. His GQ station was below decks in a magazine loaded with 500 lb'ers. He spent some time in the hospital getting right but it left him claustrophobic. It sure would scare the be-jesus out of me as well not knowing what was going on topside and hearing and feeling the explosions .

My sister spends time over there either camping or at her boss's place. Yes, you have to reserve your campsite. That's mostly state or private owned camping.

I don't know if you've ever been or heard of the camping on the north coast, but just north of Ft Bragg, Ca there's some good spots to cool your heals and catch some ocean breeze.

    Used to.
Until they ate my brake light wiring, found in my truck chewing on steering wheel, on top of my old taco red hood, and the last straw, chewed most of side moulding off wife's Nissan and she walked up and was wondering what I was laughing at only to see out the window goats chewing up her ride.

Years ago mil came by and saw our new goats. Standing at the pen she asked " what's the baseball bat for?"
I replied "oh that's for the Billy goat."
