Walmart always has at least one big brand syn at $23, buy two because you need a little extra. That first purchase will be a little steep, but you'll save in the long run. Most of my power equipment uses 5-30, but you always have some left for the next oil change anyway. Local dealership charges about $5 per filter, so that works for me.

Below the 'low dot' low or in-between the dots low? Mine was always 1/4 below the top dot, in-between the two. That .5 quart wasn't doing anyone any good in my truck. That was a great engine and never used any oil between changes, it was always in the exact same spot after an oil change and before the next.

It would be at or right below the low dot. The additional half quart puts me right under the top dot and it stays there till the next oil change.

That would definitely need the extra .5 quart. Weird how different the trucks are capacity wise. I am a notorious long oil drainer too. Maybe it was the Fumoto? Are you using the Toyota filter? I only ever used the Toyota OEM sponge filters that were made in Japan and had to special order them. I actually have several left and no longer have a 2nd Gen...

Someone said they buy an additional qt every other oil change for $7.50?

Why not just buy a 5qt jug for $23 off Amazon and then use a 1qt bottle to refill to half and dump along with a new 5qt jug?

It'd take up space for a long time but you're saving money in the long run and oil doesn't go bad in the time it'd take to use that 5qt jug you're refilling with

Buying by the quart is ridiculously expensive. I had a friend pick up a quart of Valvoline Syn Maxlife for me at Advance, I asked him how much it was and he said $9 . I can get a 5qt jug of it at Walmart for $25.
