We used the tool on my buddy's king coilovers with 700 lbs springs. Easy money

Assume you mean buying a punch that fits the hole? I've got a punch that fits about 5" long but I've got to almost get a running start to move that ring, up until the tools broke, I can't imagine doing it with LESS leverage.

This confuses me, why TF are mine taking 500 ft-lbs of torque to even budge?! Yes, the tension bolt is loosened.

Yeah I snapped my $50 King T-tool at full droop too after a few turns to give it a little bit more height. I was thinking maybe King would assist with some good customer service and replace it since I was thinking I was using the tool as intended, but this was the response I got from the Cs rep...
"Our OEM Tacoma Coilovers come with almost 2” of preload on the springs which means there is approximately 1200 lbs of force pushing on the coil adjusting nut.
A spring compressor must be used in this application before attempting to turn the coil adjusting nut or the tool will break.". So pretty much King is saying I shouldn't be adjusting the coils (compress) while it's on the truck, even though it's well known it's been done.

    Hello All
I had a question about everyone's install on these - the lower mount for the front coilovers to the LCA. Did any of you guys notice that the gap between the ears of the lower control arm mount was significantly larger than that of the mount for the kings? I put washers on both sides of them and thought it was odd that Kings didn't supply anything. I was just lucky to have washers that fit the hole and were the correct thickness.
I can take some photos at lunch.

Also another thing - has anyone encountered creaking noises on down travel (decompressing the spring) after off roading and washing the truck? I took a can of PB Blaster and sprayed different areas of the coilover and found that the creak is coming from the spring rotating as you take load off the vehicle.

If you used a spring compressor you wouldnt need the tool to adjust it :facepalm:i thought king would have better customer service than that.

Yep, apparently spending $3k on Kings doesn't warrant a little better customer service. It would have been good customer service to replace the tool that doesn't cost them much, and I would have bought another tool if he had offered to sell me one at even a slightly discounted price, but the guy was pretty determined to tell me I was wrong in even attempting to adjust them while on the truck.

what he should have explained to you, is why it is not recommended to try to add preload while the shocks are on the vehicle.
the reason is that you risk loosening the top cap. you have x amount of force being pushed in both directions by the spring, and the shock is locked in place by the top cap/mounting plate. so as you are turning the preload ring, the top cap/body is feeling the force turning the opposite direction and could turn loose. you could have the same issue with the lower rod end, we see it all the time when servicing shocks.
that doesn't meant that 90% of OEM coil over owners don't still try to do it on the vehicle, and some get lucky and don't have any issues. but it is really meant to be done in a wall mounted spring compressor.

we have a few of the standard straight tools and the t-handle tools in stock. if you need one, shoot me a PM.

I said in my post that it was unprofessional to air out the conversation I had with DSMS in this thread so I wasn't doing that. I was asking a question and bringing awareness to the other members that purchased these shocks in THIS group buy. I think you were confused about the intent and acted a little immaturely. Seems a little absurd to me but I can live with an angry internet moderator and create a new thread.

    @triptheninja
I contacted you right away with options to try to get it taken care of. it was multiple times per day, everyday since you contacted me. I offered to cover costs of replacement hoses, reservoir brackets, shipping both ways and in house labor cost.
you are going about this the wrong way, I do not make the parts as mentioned in our back and forth, I sell them based off of the info provided by the manufactures. for years the dirt king arms worked with the king shocks, king did a running change on their reservoir brackets. there were a couple people who saw a bit of wear on the hoses, and with fitting adjustments and moving the reservoir in the mounts they were able to solve the issue.
I haven't questioned the install or asked for any other pictures than the one you have posted. I offered to replace all the parts at no cost, cover shipping for the shocks from you to me and then from me to you and do the swap of the hoses the same day they arrive so they can be shipped back out that same day back to you, or ship you all of the parts at no cost so you can find someone local to cut down on any down time to you.
as mentioned by @Kennedyusmc this is not a necessarily a vendor issue. despite that, I am still trying to help you.

I said I was appreciative of the offer and was working with you to send spec oil so I could get it fixed locally and save myself the week of downtime. I'm still with-holding my private conversation with you as private. My post here was to ask if others had the same issue and what they did about it. My intent was not destructive or counterproductive. Sorry if it came across that way.
