It probably does, but like all of the other electronic "alerts" we endure all too frequently, it was probably silenced.

Like an electronic version of The Boy Who Cried Wolf

17 at the time. Still at the age, especially if she was also an emotional mess, where they still don't fully grasp the consequences of the damage words can do.

Plus, she wasn't physically with him. This was all played out over text? She could have sent her text without being 100% certain the boy was actually going through with it.

(My ex has a history of depression and suicide, and she would send me texts threatening to do things, but not actually doing it.)

They were long-distance friends, only met in person a few times. From what I've read about the case they were both suicidal (both had made previous attempts) and her encouragement was really, right or wrong, a friend encouraging a friend to do something they both believed in and had put some thought into... I'm not debating the validity of suicide here, just saying I don't think she's guilty of any malicious intent. I think it was two damaged people who were feeding into each others suicidal thoughts.

There's no such thing as safe at port.

Oh, maybe you'll just hang out on the dock instead?

Yeah. The safest thing about working on a ship is when you're at home on vacation.

I'd have to say that's probably the most intelligent post I've seen on the subject.

It also doesn't help the ship is over 20 years old with 30 to 40 year old equipment. From the article, it sounds like they were hit by the cargo ship since the engine rooms are mid ship.

Auto or semi-auto version? I miss shooting automatics. Even knowing I'd have to police brass, I enjoyed going the range with the saw or crew served weapons.

I just don't like the guy. I would not be surprised if Solar City, Space X or Tesla become the next Enron
