    Greetings Gentlemen

We know that most manufactured items nowadays are designed to break after X amount of time, cycle time etc. No surprises there.

Headlight bulbs used to last many years. Now they burn out in a year or so, or low usage hours. I have checked with several others (different brand cars) and it is the same issue all over..........Planned Obsolescence all over the place.

Question: Which part # will provide the LONGEST life without getting into exotic bulbs.

If you post a link, I will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Alex

Ive not had an OE bulb fail in over 20 years on multiple marquees.

If duration is the goal, that's where I'd look.

I have always used the cheap sylvania bulbs and had good luck with them. I have daytime running lights so that makes them burn quicker. If I had to guess I would say that they usually last around 3-4 years for me....

Perhaps you are getting a different batch. They even mention it on the package that they are good for 100 - 150 hours long.

Will go OEM and call it day

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure the ones I buy have around a few 1000's hour life. There are like 3 different grades at wallyworld "Walmart" and the brightest are ~150hr expectancy. The ones that are like 12$ a piece are around 1500hr. I will try to find a package to make sure.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Probably the most basic halogen bulb you can find will last the longest. Once you step up to higher performing bulbs the lifetime drops because they're brighter and burn hotter so don't last as long. I had a pair of Sylvania ZXE's last me a little over a year which wasn't bad considering most people barely get 6 months out of them. But, I only use my headlights at night or during inclement weather so that may be why, lots of cars have them on all the time regardless.

I've always used the stock bulbs in my cars but I live in a high speed state (80 mph) and there is wildlife here so I changed mine over to Sylvania Silverstars. They are fantastic. Much better than stock. I put mine in last summer and they are still running strong but I work in the daytime so they don't get used a lot. They do make a "Gold Star" which I may try just for fun sometime but the Silver Stars work just fine for me. The low beam on the Silver Stars works better or at least as good than the high beam on the stockers. Very rarely can I use the high beams but when I do they are fantastic. They aren't cheap though. I think I remember the Silverstars being almost $40 or a little more and the Gold Stars are over $50 but don't quote me on the price.

I have no idea how new they are but they do have them. I saw them at Wally World. I think they were about $10 more than the silver stars.

I'm with one of the above posters. Always had good luck with the Sylvania bulbs.
