How many miles you are getting from your OEM front rotors befor replace?

I have a huge pulsation while breaking and dealer says "warped, replace". 2015 DCLB with about 35 K miles. Is it reasonable?

No heavy loads, no towing. Live close to mountains and often drive up and down, but use engine breaks a lot.

Really just depends on how the truck has been driven in terms of stopping. Constantly slamming on the breaks vs slow braking.

50/50 city/highway driving. In a city I am not driving like constant PMS, but sometimes you do need to break. No way around it.

Got 150k on my OEM brakes.

Shudder can be many things. Rotors don't usually warp.

I replaced original front pads with OEM pads at 70K miles last year. Rotors were fine. If this second set of pads lasts another 70K miles, I'll replace rotors if needed. 60/40 (city/highway) driving with no hard breaking for the most part. No towing.

I'm at 180,000 miles and still on the original rotors. I've had the issue in the past and have had my rotors turned 3 times to correct the problem. Last time I didn't need new brakes. Having the rotors taken off, turned, and put back on was only slightly more expensive than a tire rotation. Less than the cost of just 1 rotor, not including labor. I'd look at that first.

Of course if yours are warped too bad they may have to be replaced.

Have you had to make many panic stops in those 35k miles? Often what is perceived as a warped rotor simply has buildup up friction material in one or more spots.

Think of this scenario: You're doing 70mph on the interstate and then something in the road requires you to slam on the brakes. You panic and stand on the brake pedal until you come to a stop, and because of the situation at the time, you KEEP the brake pedal pressed while stopped.

So the massive heat buildup that occurred while you went from 70mph to 0mph is there, and then you have your brake pads sitting locked against the rotor in one spot for who knows how long. It only has to happen once for material to transfer to the rotor.

Conveniently enough, the fix for this is to do the same thing, but instead of staying in one spot once stopped, you slow to like 10-15mph and then get back up to speed and repeat the hard stops until you have heat-cycled the rotors enough to cook off any material. The link below explains the process.

I got 110,000 miles on my original pads and rotors in hilly western Pa. and was pleased. Never had that kind of performance from any other vehicle in 39 years of driving...

Just replace my warped rotors on my 2015 at 47,000 miles, pads looked about half gone but replaced them as well. This fixed my pulse and everything is smooth again.

They dont warp its pad material. You can get them resurfaced. You may be able to do it yourself.

Warranty does not cover it? Dealer replaced rotors and pads on wife's Lexus at 30K when she complained of shuddering when braking.

My OEM rotors were fine when at about 70K I replaced them with EBC rotors. Kept the OEM rotors and at about 150K, I re-installed them, after resurfacing them, when the EBC rotors started to cause shuddering.

My 2013 OEM rotors are at 77,000 miles now and I can tell they need to be resurfaced. I want to change them out but I am dealing with some health BS right now so it with every damn thing else is on the back burner right now.

Yes they do, I used to turn them and you could clearly see the warp in it.
