No, it's a solid slab with tile layed on top. No heat, no plumbing or electrical or anything running through it.

In that case our code would require R12 sub slab insulation around the perimeter of the slab , 2' into the building

Well fuck. That slab used to be a sunroom, so it was poured to that standard, and then this addition came later.... there's no way to pull that slab up now, it's already got structure on top if it. Also, isn't that something they would have caught in the slab inspection? There was one of those and that guy said it was fine.

How would they catch that at slab inspection if as you said , the slab was not prepared / poured to luving space specs ?

There was a slab inspection for the new pour we had to do, we specifically asked the inspector about the old slab and what is was poured two and he said it would be ok for what we were doing.

But, to be honest, I'm just letting g the contractor figure it out. He's been really good so far with all the surprises and setbacks.

If the slab part of the slab was existing that should have been noted on any drawings submitted. So it "should" be a non issues. But some areas can be absolutely insane with some of the b.s. they pull. Around here I've looked at an addition that was in progress and they stopped it before he put shingles on because ever single thing that could be wrong was wrong, and it was inspected ever step of the way

i think this is what happened, as the proper permits were pulled and plans submitted, and the existing slab was shown on there and approved, and then out of nowhere suddenly theres a problem.

The pre wire part actually makes sense , way cheaper to do when the house is being built and thats where we are headed as far as the increase in electric vehicles

There are parts of building codes that are designed to future proof houses for the next owner , our next code revision will bring in a requirement for pre plumbing to the attic for solar hot water and according to a recent conference on our BC Building Code , by 2030 all buildings will be required to be Net Zero and thats only 13 years away

Thanks!!!! I cant remember the name of the paint or color. I'm at work at the moment,i'll post it up after i get home. Got the paint from homedepot. It was the best that they carry. Satin finish for the walls and higloss for the molding and wainscoting.
