Definitely. More lugs = more traction

 

Unless they're bigger lugs.

 

Bigger lugs have better traction than more, smaller lugs.

5 lug trucks are light duty, landscaper shit wagons. They share very little with the 6 lug trucks. They don't have 4WD, and they don't have V6 motors. The suspension is light duty.

TRD has nothing to do with 6 lug or not. The real tacoma TRUCK has 6 lugs and can be 4 banger, 4x4, sport, V6, or off-road.

I've had this problem on both my '05 reg cab and my '07 that I have now. Pretty sure it has to do with surface area - when I went to 265/75/16's on the '05 I no longer had this issue. I haven't put 265's on my '07 yet, just got it in dec and haven't had the discretionary to do it.

 

I thought the issue had become do the skinny tires supplied with the 5-lug wheels have inferior wet surface performance, as compared to the wider tires supplied on the 6-lug wheels...

wider tires = more hydroplaning. In any case high performance summer tires are the way to go in summer.
