Urd pump upgrade installed. Engine won't start.

I must have not cranked it for long enough she eventually started. First impressions my surging idle has stopped, so I believe that was the issue with that. Secondly I feel a little bit more throttle response so it must have been the clogged filter. Overall very happy with the upgrade, thanks all for all the input.

 

I did use some quick start to Prime the engine that may have helped Prime the lines.

Quick start? Never heard of it. Like I said you initially have to provide more cranking time when there is no fuel in the lines.

It's always going to surge a little initially like that when there is no fuel. Fiasco resolved here it sounds like.

 

Isn't it an electric pump? Or are they ran off a vacuum? If it's electric can't you just turn the key switch on, crack a fuel line and push air out that way? I'm not sure that cranking the engine over is needed. I'm thinking from a diesel aspect tho dealing with air in the line, you need cranking for fuel pressure to build up on the old mechanical pumps.

 

Quick start is starter fluid. We use to use it on site to re mount fork lift tires when they popped off the rim.

Normally, yes, but in these vehicles the only time fuel pressure is present is when cranking. As the PCM sends a STA signal when you are cranking the truck and once that is active fuel is only then pumping and while running obviously.

These are not of a traditional Chevy design where the pump is building pressure as soon as you turn the key. Kind of an issue when performing jobs like fuel pump replacements and the battery does not have the juice available to keep turning the engine over.

Also air in the system is a non issue.
