285/75/16 slight rubbing on UCA on hard lock

Ok, so I had some KO2's installed and I have zero rub except on full lock very slight. So, do I go 1.25" spider trax or get some offset rims. I'm planning a 1" lift on the front. 2016 turd OR.

 

BTW, the KO2's ride very nice. Smooth and for the first time my 3rd gen rides as nice as my 1st and 2nd gens.

 

1.25" spacers will help clear the UCA, but will probably put you into the cab mount area; the outside of the tire will sit 40mm further out. Plus it adds 21mm of positive scrub.
If you went with .75" spacers, it should clear the UCAs and it would stand a better chance of keeping out of the cab mount. It would only add about 9mm of positive scrub.

 

Are you stock height now?

After installing the spacers do you think a caster adjustment could clear the cab?

Also, it's barely rubbing the UCA so what are your thoughts on doing nothing.

 

If it's in your budget, grab a pair of lightracing upper control arms!

 

Will the LR UCAs design prevent/avoid The rubbing?

 

I was going to say UCAs too. Yes they are shallower than OEM since they don't have the big stamped steel overhang like OEM.

Out in TX there you can get whatever UCAs you want. LR are usually cheapest, but since you don't have the screwy weather closed ball joints are not a must. Uniballs seem to give even more clearance since they are just that round piece.

 

Not rubbing at height...What's it doing at droop?

You might find 3/4" is not enough spacer.

 

Great point. Will upgraded UCAs be the best choice? I'm planning a small lift and UCAs are within the budget.

 

I don't know if the change in geometry would be enough.
Most run about 4.5" or less of backspace to clear suspension. Stock backspace is 5".

Old thread revival I know but did your ever get this figured out? Will an aftermarket UCA and 285s save you from needing a CMC. Currently in the market for wheels and don't wanna get buyers remorse with the 265s. Yes I know they're safe but let's be real, they look like the truck skipped leg day (especially on DCLB) and 285s just look right.

If you adjust the caster as much as possible to +2 then yes. I cleared with 285’s and SPC LR UCA’s and a CMC.

 

So would it clear without the CMC and all the other stuff you have? How wide are your rims/offset and how much lift?

 

I am running scs SR8’s 16x8 -12 offset with spidertrax 1.25 spacers to in all it was like -38 offset or so?

i still needed a CMC after installing aftermarket UCA. I'm running 285's with JBA UCA's and i adjusted the castor to 3 and i was still rubbing on the cab mount.. mainly at full lock and while in reverse. It wasn't major rubbing but enough to leave a little shiny spot on the cab mount and not to mention it was super annoying lol. no more rubbing at all after the CMC job.

also had to put on 1.25 spidertrax because according to marlin from JBA my wheels were going to rub the UCA (285 Falkens with 16in TRD beadlock style wheels) i wonder if i could get away with 1' spacers instead...

 

Bottom line - you’re gonna rub at stock at stock height if you decide to run size 33” tires. For every one person that says they cleared them without rubbing, you can search for a few dozen others that rub until CMC And a lift.

I’m up 3” and still catch a little on a stuff and wheel turn. I haven’t been off road in the mess since getting aligned again around 3.5° caster, but I’m sure it’s still close.
