for all those that live in California and bought their tacos in cali, how much do you guys think I can bargain? I'm looking for a double cab 4x4 OR Tech package/short bed with the bed cover. Most dealerships are selling them at 39-40k and I can't seem to make them budge on price. They all give me the "well I can't go down on the price because he next guy walking through the door will take it".. Im not asking for miracles but after taxes and license it's coming out to about 44k.. I feel like I could do better but it's pretty tough.

I have the same configuration minus the bed cover, got it for around $37k, which last September was MSRP.
I did shop around. Always got the same "these trucks sell themselves" line from the salesperson, even when they were marked up way past MSRP. The biggest dealer in state, Longo seems to always have the fairest price and wide selection.

Im definitely interested in buying out of state but not sure how that would go about in terms of registering the car back in California? And what it would cost?

I'll definitely check out lingo thank you!

I live in Los Angeles. Definitely willing to stretch out as far as possible. My issue isn't really the price, but the fact that they're really marked up and dealers are just not budging.. I almost feel like they don't want my business lol. They've literally told me, "we won't drop the price" which I feel like is more of a Los Angeles/California thing than most other states?

Yes sir, 38k as in everything included. I also spent about a month researching prices from up and down California. Contacted many dealers like longo in LA and some dealers in San Diego also central California. Gathered up "special online dealer pricing / over the email negotiation" with VIN numbers and profile of the trucks to match with the offers on them of course to match. Walked into a Bay area dealer and presented my offers and they matched my lowest offer.

Got my truck for 37,263. Look at "freeman toyota" and bring their price to a local dealership and ask them to price match.

I second this, they where very competitive with pricing. They are in Santa Rosa, CA. Would have went with them but the guys at Vacaville Toyota came in at $500 less.

I brought their price into a local dealer to me, they price matched and gave me a 10 year warranty and 6 years maintainince at employee pricing (my friend worked at the dealer). The warranty also covers the lift I had installed. I paid over the 37 total but 37 was just for the truck.

Yes. The truck came in roughly around 39,500 + - after taxes. It's a trd off-road 4x4 tech, towing and something else I forget.

Maybe come up to the bay?

If I can get mine for 38k out the door I'm sure you can too. Just need to spend some solid time in researching and sending out emails and offers around. We'll worth the time in my opinion tho.

Again what I got was a super white DCLB OR. Don't buy their BS about if you don't buy it the next guy will or these trucks sells themselves. Business is business and deals can be had just need to take time out to create deals.

Forgot to mention the college grad program helped as well with shaving off I think $750 at the time? I brought that up after our final deal was done which helped take even more off of course.

Bought (ordered) mine in AZ and drove it home. Reasonably easy to register etc.

You just have to be patient. They will all say that line but it just takes the right person to feel motivated to sell. When I shopped for my TRD Pro they had makeup and dealer added crap. But in the end they took off the dealer crap and lowered the markup price and gave me more for my trade. If you're not in a hurry to buy you can take your time and find the right deal for you.

If you can get one guy to budge then you can go to the next dealer and say "dealer x is giving me this..."

Tell them they can blow you! I don't care where you live.....NEVER pay MSRP!

^^This^^.....if you absolutely can't get invoice somewhere in that crappy state.

Mine was a little over $39k out the door with everything....it's a 17 TRD Sport 4x4 DCLB with the tech package and tow. I had to order it and wait 5 months for it to come in since that combo is a purple unicorn in Texas.

This was very close to the price of my truck before TTL.
OP...always talk to the fleet manager, or his equivalent, and deal with him/her via email because it saves you time. I would email dealers anywhere you think you'd travel to go and pick it up if they give you the price you want. If you buy out of state just turn it into a small road trip and you'll get to see what you're missing by living in California...I would know, I lived there for 30yrs before I bailed on that shit! If you pick it up out of state you won't pay the tax or title, you do that when you get back home and register it. Good luck!

That was my experience as well. I ended up getting an SR and they took $1,500 off msrp, it was a manual trans and in the heart of the Bay Area, so it sat on the lot for over 4 months. After walking out twice and 7 times of back and forth, they agreed to $1,500 off, I originally asked for $2,000 off. They didn't seem to happy after everything was finalized, they were pretty rude answering a couple of I had after everything was said and done.

Maybe you should try actually sitting down and getting into negotiations. That way they have time invested and are more willing to make a sale. Before I sat down the sales guy told me they don't mark Tacoma's down, and they only have 5 Tacoma's on the lot, and they will be all sold within a week or so.

    SR 4x4 5-Speed 24.4K I feel like I got a pretty good deal.
