    Exhaust leak has been fixed. The pinging sounds similar to what a ball in a paint can sounds like. You have to listen carefully to hear it. But even my wife notices it when were driving.

    have you check the knock sensor? They are cheap enough...

    I have not, no codes are being thrown for anything. I guess its not bad enough to trip any sensors.

    Do you have any pending codes? Can't tell from the video but it sounds more like a missfire than knock.

    After more research, I think I have spark knock. I've watched some vids on My code reader doesn't show any codes, I don't know how to tell if I have pending codes.

    I'm looking at purchasing a scanner with live data like the Innova 3040d.

    Update:
    1. Denso plugs look good with .040 gap (40k miles on them)
    2 plug wires have 40k on them and look great
    3. EGR valve replaced 40k ago
    4. new fuel filter
    5. Tried 89 Octane Chevron
    6. Cleaned the MAF
    7. Replaced exhaust manifold
    8. Corrected slightly out of spec valve lash
    9. Seafoam through intake ( i guess one treatment is good enough)

    I plan to inspect for vacuum leaks on the intake and maybe look at the knock sensor. I also plan to try some high octane gas.

    I ran my gas tank down to E and filled tank half way up with 93 Chevron. After a bit of driving, there was still pinging but the pinging seemed to be more quite and less frequent. I found myself having to try to get the truck to ping to see if it would do it.

    I have no problem purchasing a $100 scanner with live data if it will help be figure this out. I'd really like to figure this out, but I'm about ready to take to someone because I now believe that the sound could be detrimental to my motor.

    What do you think your noise is?

    No clue. Plugs look good, took to dealer and they said it was fine. Blamed a rattling heat shield on my cat. Not sure I believe that, but the fact that you have a completely different engine and have the same noise makes me think we have a shared part that is causing the issue.

    I'm 99% certain that mine is not a heat shield.

    Here is a video that I captured a few days ago. This was before I put in 93 octane. It doesn't always make this noise. I'm curious if this is related to the pinging noise I hear under load. Any chance that this noise could be spark knock too? I'm pretty sure the sound does away if you raise the RPMs.

    That plug looks good to me. But have you tried running OEM plugs?

    FWIW those plugs look pretty worn. The gap on the dual electrode plugs is supposed to be pretty close. The electrode tip is supposed to be circular. When it gets that oval shape that's a good sign they're worn. Not really convinced you have a spark issue if it runs /accelerates good though..

    Those plugs are gapped to .040 on each electrode. What do you mean "oval shape"? Tip looks good to me. Maybe the brown dust area is creating an illusion?
