License plate format

On the DMV website it asked for what type of vehicle. One of the choices was commercial.. and that is what I selected.
I'm just trying to verify. In case I get stopped. Don't really want to deal with the ticket.

Seriously, if you live in California you pretty much give up the right to complain or question anything. Might as well secede and start your own communist state.

 

To OP... the throw back plate (1960 legacy) is a different code set and I believe they have no determination of commercial and non-commercial. Both my tundra and Tacoma plates were ordered at the same time and 1 digit apart with 2 letters (sequential not personalized meaning they chose the numbers)... my neighbors Camero ZL1 also had 2 letters as did his commercially registered work van.

For what it's worth... I lived in Cali (Long Beach, CA) for 26 years and my family still does. I agree with everyone else... that state is fucked up now that I see the green grass on the other side. The only thing that place has going for it is weather, the beach and Lake Tahoe ( and the good half is in NV so that almost doesn't even count). Just sayin...

Yes I know that now. I didn't 30 years ago. And now days.. if you live anywhere in the states.. you are giving something up anyways. You just haven't noticed.
And in reality you don't ever have to give up the right to complain.. question or do something about whatever situation. .. that people choose to. Is a whole different story. Thank you for the reply. I've known about the california issue for a while. And really wish I could feel in the US. Because I like the life style. That I first saw over 30 years ago. But that is a completely different issue. I was just asking a question about my trucks plates.

Your plates won't matter. The plate number is assigned to your vehicle and your vehicle has its own registration requirement by VIN. The plate doesn't change the classification of your vehicle. In order the change your weight class you have to submit a GVW form "4008" and submit a weight certification.

Rest assured you're fine. The plate has no bearing on your registration classification. How will LEOs know what classification a vehicle is (commercial or auto) when someone has a custom plate like I do (DRJ1097)?

Back in the 70's my pops used to get pulled over in his 1/2 ton van, because it was resisted as an auto, meaning you can only haul people and groceries. Now a day's the officers could care less, there are way to many codes, they aren't going to dig unless you're an ass like the OP.

I got pulled over in my rock buggy, and after the Sheriff saw I was registered and insured, he let me go with a warning. He said I was breaking to many VC's, and fix it tickets weren't worth his time.

 

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking. But since cops are so on edge here in CA.. I don't really want to give them another excuse to stop me for no reason.
I've read of people getting the wrong plates from the DMV.. just to find out when they got stopped.
I'm going to be calling the DMV anyways.. I don't want the surprise.

Thy Bay Area, is so big it's pretty much unmanageable, I'm assuming LA is very similar, I haven't been down there in a while. Here the cops are literally stunned when you can show a valid ID, an up to date insurance card, aren't on meth and don't have any warrants.

Hell, people still put temp 90 day permits in the window's even though the DMV hasn't issued them in years, cops drive right by.
