Okay so got the frame anti-corrosive treatment done at my local dealership. Picked the truck up and immediately felt the windshield was extremely hazy.. upon closer inspection, the entire truck is covered in a fine layer of that rubberish stuff they coated the frame with. Graze the hood with my finger and it'll be covered with that black crap. Went to a car wash and used the foam brush on it and it only pushed the black stuff around without getting rid of it (It is extremely sticky)..

The only easy solution is to soak a rag with WD40 and then wipe down the body panel - It comes off real easy.

What do you recommend I do? Is this typical when one get's an undercarriage spray job?

Can I apply wd40 all over the paint job? Is it safe? Or is there something better?

    Thanks.

If they put it all over your truck, they need to take it off. Send it back and don't waste the time F*ing with it.

Well I'm wondering how these sprays are usually done?

Judging by the uniform and fine coating on the body panel (Can't even tell until I put my finger on it), I assume it was done in some sort of a paint room and the guy just went on the frames.. fine particles/mist settled all over the truck as a result.

Short of taping the entire truck and only exposing the frame components, I don't see how this can be avoided...

Whatever method they use to remove the tarish coating, I can probably do it more carefully myself. I would like to know the proper method of doing so.. It'll just be like waxing the truck hopefully..

these dealerships are crooks, it seems like the salesmen set the stage while you are picking your truck out, putting little things in your ears like it's very important to do this and that, then when the finance manger grabs you he tries to seel you all of these service packages, extended warranties and on and on and on.

I wouldn't recommend WD-40. I used it on my '67 Camaro years ago, to lubricate the convertible top hinge points. Got overspray from the WD-40 on the quarter panels. Even though I had washed the car many times after, the areas I oversprayed "fisheyed" like crazy when I had the car repainted.

when i had my truck undercoated in the fall they first sprayed over the body of the truck with this "film" that doesnt adhere to the paint and washes off. the purpose of it was to protect against overspray. any overspray would just land on the film and once they were done they just washed the truck clean.

So I'm wondering if they sprayed this film... when you say it's able to "just wash" off, do you mean just spray the body with the high pressure rinse at the car wash or did you have to wipe it down with rag to remove the black tar?

I'm probably going to need this done to my truck, as the frame is rusted but not bad enough to replace. Do you know if they do any type of pretreatment before they apply the spray, like getting all the loose rust off? I'm in agreeance with the other guys too, take it back to them and let them clean it up for you, atleast you'll get a free detail:)

Well i've already cleaned the hood and the front fenders... Gonna see how much is still left on the rest of the body panels.. should I have not done anything and brought it over dirty... In any case, I wouldn't trust them to do a better/more careful job than what I can do, I just want to be using the correct chemicals, if need be.

For the spray, I think they just aimed and sprayed and also they dont' spray the top surface of the frame, just from the bottom and inside. They also sprayed on the factory skid plates.. They stopped at the leaf spring shackles.. I would imagine they probably removed all the wheels, but that's about it...

So no black crap on your finger when you ran it across the body surface? The coating was so fine and uniform on mine that it was indistinguishable unless you ran your finger across is and revealed what the paint looked like underneath..

So other than the stuff they got on your truck, how did the underbody turn out? Do they only spray the frame or all the rusty components?

Do you know if they remove all loose rust before the application?

I don't know if they removed loose rust before spraying.

I believe the "official" word is that they only spray the two main sections from the bottom. Cross members are not sprayed, even though my cross member looks like it received the goo.

My frame that's inside the engine compartment shows rust at the top. They did not spray that side.

when i had mine undercoated they did an awesome job, they sprayed everything besides the tranny, driveshaft, and exhaust. they also wirebrushed any loose surface rust, they also removed old undercoating from the year before just so this new stuff would stick that much better.
