Okay, I'll start off by saying I'm not an engine guy.
Decided to go do a little sunday offroading with my wife and daughter... lots of water/mud. hit the puddles pretty good, got water in the top of my engine compartment, tried climbing one last very muddy hill without success, made it halfway in 4-Lo and started backing down, started getting a horrible noise and gas smell in the cab so i shut it down and rolled it down. Took it out of 4-Lo, out of 4-Hi, popped the hood, saw a lot of water on my intake cover etc. decided to start it, started right up but noise coming from engine area, and throttle jumping up and down, idling it revs from 10,000 to 15,000 and back on it's own. drives okay, no check engine light, but still a bad noise coming from the spark plug area. Any ideas? I HAVE to drive 80 miles in the morning to work so it's drying out in the garage for now...

Well you did not hydro lock it so it most likely is just still wet
new filters - air - oil
    new oil
diff fluid change front and rear
    dry out the plugs

playing in water gets expensive - thats why I don't do it too much

Okay so i pulled my manifold cover off and was checking things out. saw a hose had come off, not sure how, maybe excess pressure from rolling backwards while in 4-Lo. popped the hose back on and started the engine, sounded fine and dandy, pulled that hose off and it started having the issues so i think im okay. Thanks for the input guys. the foam on the bottom of the manifold cover was wet heh...

2nd. I'd pull them out and let em dry. Replacing them right now is probably out of the question since you have to drive to work in a few hours. You can always crank the motor w/ the plugs out to see if it'll spit any water out.
Usually if you get water in the motor, it'll stop and wont crank since you cant compress the water thats in there. You can bend valves this way too. In an event, I dont think thats what happened in your case, or doesnt necessarily sound like it anyway.

Glad you found the culprit! Put a clamp on the hose next time you think of it.
And if you think any moisture did get in the motor, changing the oil would be a good idea, as mentioned above.

That's not what happened- Hydrolocking won't let the truck run.

It sounds like he found some loose stuff and got it worked out. When you've got the time- Clean it all out and think about swapping fluids. If you are driving thru deep water I'd be more worried about it- but thru puddles and mud- Not as big an issue.

Well, water hitting the hood from INSIDE the engine bay probably isn't good eh?

The biggest concern (outside the intake sucking it in) would be the electrical connections. Other than that, not much to be worried about imo.

It's no biggie like Chris NJ said. You get water in there from rain and car washes....Not great but not bad. Driving thru deep water is where the problems usually start.

id never sell my truck for 2 reasons

    1 i love my truck

2 if i sold it to someone, knowing what my truck has gone through, if it died shortly after id have a load on my conscience equivelent to being sent to hell and being ass raped by satin
