    Not even surprised. Still sad.

    Yes and no.

Its not that its anything against ppl on craigslist. I am just more likely to trust someones opinion if I trust that person. If it was something small I wouldn't be against giving a shop that advertises on craigslist a chance, otherwise how do they ever grow as a company to get that reputation.

Although linking to a nice website from Craigslist would increase my odds... But i wouldn't look on CL for that to begin with.

    #1 yes, #2 no.

I pretty much only go by word of mouth of people I know. If I need a service that no one I know has dealt with, then I check reviews as a last ditch effort to "know" something about the company/person I'll be dealing with.
I will almost never go to CL for services. I find a traditional phone book approach has served me better. Seems to be more accountability when you're paying for a listing somewhere than when you're posting something on the internet for free. Now if the person is on CL as a method of advertising but are also available elsewhere, then the CL post won't deter me, but if they only exist on CL then no.

I couldn't do a web site as I'm not sure I would want to operate as a "business" out of my house. As it is, not sure I want to make this jump with the chance of late night or weekend drive bys asking for help

only if the guy went by "thefatkid"
Because that would lighten the mood, put me at ease and generally make me more succeptable to shenanigans.
It would have to be within a 15 mile radius of my house though because no way I trust anyone who lives further than that.

Last guy was word of mouth, very popular with the locals, and most of you read how all that turned out on my end.
So No, and No. Do it myself or local dealer will do it.
Unless it's you of course. I'd recommend you all day long.

Word of mouth yes. I've also seen local mx mechanics through my wife's fb or mx forums.

Been down that road too. You have to train your customers, or they will try to walk all over you.
Telling customers right up front not to call on weekends or evenings seems to work out pretty good. Repeat offenders are asked to call another company.
