Was thinking about replacing my 2010 2nd gen for a new 2017 4x4 TRD...

Until I came here and started reading all the problems with the 3rd gen.

Unbelievable... we went through much of this exact same garbage with the new 2nd gen. Had my leaf springs replaced, head lights replaced, the dealership cut my gas pedal down by hand (looks like crap), flashed transmission, etc. NOW (it's been out for a while and they're just now getting around to doing something about it), there's a recall on my truck that states the leaf springs could snap and puncture the gas tank causing a fire and they want me to bring it in for an inspection.

You would think after all that the 2nd gen owners (and Toyota) went through, they would have learned something. But, no... it seems not only have they released another truck with with even MORE problems than the previous and they're actually hijacking people's new trucks because of a transmission leak with no fix. I don't know how legal that is and probably could be considered theft. That was it, that's the straw... No Toyota Tacoma.... PERIOD. Toyota simply doesn't deserve the business.

Toyota as a company has become a joke. What a shame...

Anyone want to buy my 2010 White 4X4? I need a new truck

A new Ranger and Frontier are coming soon.

If you can wait, I'd suggest waiting to see what they bring to the party.

If you need something now, you can get a screaming deal on a new Nissan Frontier Pro4X.

Being in Dacula, you're not far from Sutherlin Nissan in Buford.

The have 2 brand new 2016 Pro4X trucks that they are ready to deal on.

    Ask for Bill (internet sales).

Great guy and I came very close to buying the gunmetal one from him, but I ended up buying a new Jeep instead.

The joke is that you listed a leaf TSB as a mod.

It's a stretch to characterize 3rd Gen Tacomas as problematical. Upgrading from a well-loved and hard used 2012 2nd Gen to a new 2017 TRD Off Road has been a great experience.
In general, everything functions just a bit better.

Well that's your first problem. You base your decisions on keyboard warriors. Go find out about the 3rd gen yourself. You might find out the sky isn't falling.

I was just listing what was done to the truck at that time, I believe. The replacement leaf spring actually added another leaf and raised the truck a inch or so... This was 7 years ago, so I don't really remember why I did that, but whatever.

Edit: wanted to edit this post to say I fixed it just for you kiabetik81

I was just there looking at them over the weekend. The gas mileage on those are just abysmal. I am very interested in the new Ranger and Frontier, they can't come soon enough!

Not really, this is a great website and is full of excellent information if you know how to read between the lines.

I'm not saying the new gen is total POS, but I'm not willing to go through all of the BS with Toyota and the current recalls, let alone the high likelihood of future recalls. Toyota wants to take little to no responsibility until they are forced to. I think this current gen might just be a lemon and I'm not willing to risk it when there are really good alternatives out there... especially for the $$$ they want for their offering.

Why would I want to deal with a company that treats is customers so poorly? (i.e. - take your truck from you during a routine oil change and state there's a recall with no solution or ETA for parts, etc.)

There's a lot I like about the Tacoma's but there's a lot I don't like as well... I take that into account with the current problems, along with the non-customer support and it's a deal breaker...

Toyota needs to put out a better product and stand behind it!

CJREX, do you own a Toyota Tacoma? If so, a 3rd Gen? I see your comments, nothing but attacking this truck, why?

See, you're implying I've done no other research. I have 2 neighbors and 3 people at work who have new Tacoma's and I've talked with all of them. I've also test driven a 2017 limited and wasn't all that impressed... for the price. This website is the best place to learn about Tacoma's hands down.

WOW! My second gen lasted nearly 200k miles with no issues. I am shocked to hear about all these issues with the second gen. Is Toyota a garbage company?

This is definitely the right move.

I saw the New 2018 Nissan Titan on the road yesterday, which I don't think is available for sale yet. It looked really impressive! If this is a sign of things to come as far as mid-size trucks go, you need to wait.

I am going to be trading my turd gen in for either a frontier or Ranger. I don't have any issues with my truck. It's just that the power train doesn't have the right power band or even enough power for this day and age.

Yep, and it's only a few months old, so I'm still waiting for the differential to explode. :fingerscrossed:
