Advice on first lift install

Sup bros!

Well some parts arrived today! OME 886's on Nitrocharger 9000's for the front, and Bilstein 5160's for the rear. Purchased from @MWM BAJA 12 here on the forum. Big thanks to @RigginsTaco for giving me the heads up.

So I'm a young dude trying to ball on a budget. Will be making a purchase for a Dakar leaf pack here in the next month. Never lifted a truck before, been doing a lot of research on here, looking to get as much input as possible.

What do you guys think about running this lift at 3" in the front on stock UCA's?
Will installing the full leaf pack with 3" in the front result in a level truck? Or will I still have rake?

Any additional words of advice would be greatly appreciated

 

Nope, will wander too much. You're gonna need UCA's at that height. Your cams will be maxed out trying to get enough caster, which you won't.

Wow awesome, thanks for the link man its very informative. Now I'm wondering if a full Dakar leaf pack will give me way too much rake.

 

With the 886 springs, I think you should be ok.

I ran em fine for 3 years no problem. Stock UCA. Driving it highway didn't notice the wander much unless it was windy. Here is a pic of my truck with that setup and Dakar leafs in rear

 

Hey guys thanks for all the input, been doing more research and piecing things together. I'm debating doing the install myself but would consider having a shop do it if the labor isn't going to be horrendous.

How much is the install usually for front coils, rear shocks, leaf pack, and UCA's? I'm searching around the forum but wanted to see if anyone knows specifically for a set up like this.

 

I bet if shelled out the money for a few cases of beer and a couple of pizzas, you could probably recruit some people here to give you a hand.

 

Oh man if possible I would 100% Doubt there are many members near me over here in Illinois though.

 

It's possible but most likely your caster and camber numbers will be off resulting in uneven tire wear.

I was trying to save money also and went with Camburg. They were excellent honestly.

 

Shop is quoting me 700 for everything including alignment. Fair?

Suburbs of Chicago. If I was in an area with a lot of TW members I'd do full scale BBQ with coolers of beer kinda thing haha.

 

I had an alignment shop in SoCal do my 5100 lift (front/rear) with 3 leaf AALs for $260, including an alignment. Check the mom 'n pop alignment shops in your area to see if they'll do your install. The local 4x4 shops near me wanted anywhere from $600-$800 to do it as well.

Since then I've been around for a few "mod days" with local members who help each other out with suspension installs and the like for a case of beer, so check our regional section and maybe someone will be able to help you out

 

This is true, but also make sure you have someone with some experience with this stuff. You don't want a shade tree job on your suspension!

 

True, definitely do your due diligence and ask the right questions. The place I went to advertised lift installations on their website so I felt better knowing it was something they've done before, plus it was just a 5100 install which is pretty straightforward as far as they go. Their hourly rate and quote for the install time was much more reasonable than what the 4x4 shops were quoting me.

I should mention as well that I kept my stock uppers on at the time, I replaced those later.
