So i bought a canopy for my 96 tacoma (single cab, short bed) and I'm wondering if it is the wrong one. The person I bought it from assured me it is for a single cab but it isn't lining up as nicely as i thought. They said there was a 3rd brake light cover i could get and this would bring it in a little, but I can't find any for sale online. Anyway, does anyone recognize whether this canopy is for a stock or extended cab? (Maybe it is the wrong one) Or if you know where i could get this brake light plate?
    Thanks!

Damn :/ so it is for an extended cab, I'm guessing?

(I will check to see if there are some serial numbers I can look up and see what this thing goes to)

Not sure, it may be for a newer version of the Tacoma. The size is correct, but the fit is not.

I would use it if you need it. Don't pay over $200. The fit is not that important to me.

It has a bit of an overhang on the tailgate, like .25-.5". If it can suck in i might be happy with it.
In that case i spent too much on it! Hope i can return it to them :/

On another note, where is a good place to look for canopies online? I'll check the forums and might post this one if I cannot return it.

2nd gen caps won't fit width wise so it's probably for a first gen extra cab or some other mini truck. My hunch is extra cab though - looks like the overhang OP is talking about at the rear is being caused by the front not matching the profile of the cab and so the cap is sitting too far back as it compensates for the mismatch.

single cabs use a "flat" front on the cap since the ext cab and 4-door have a more rounded/sloped back of the cab

Yeah that is exactly what happened in the back :/ I pushed it a little farther forward and got the gap to close at the tailgate.

Now would be a smart time to deactivate your account, while your wallet still has some stuffing. Stay on here long enough and that will change. :( :D

Can't tell what brand it is but chances are if you can locate a serial# plate on the interior you should be able to check in with most reputable cap dealers who will be able to dig up info on it. Once you have solid fit info, list it on Craigslist and see what happens. Best of luck - it takes time to find the right cap.

If you do decide to keep it, be careful getting it too close to the cab to get rid of that rear hangover. Even with the proper xtra-cab canopy and fitted even with the bed, it still ended up denting the back of my cab while wheeling :annoyed:

These 1st gens have a bit of frame flex in the rear.

I've tried searching these past few days and can't find any info :/ It's a Sahara, here's a pick of the only numbers i found, I'll try calling a canopy place. But I can't seem to find the brand Sahara anywhere, anyone heard of these?
Yeah I should've taken more time looking, wanted to get something before my classes started this qtr. From previous experiences I should've known better than to rush with car parts on craigslist x)
Right now it's rubbing on the 3rd tail light, might see if i can give it some play. (Anyone hear of a 3rd tail light plate to make this more flush? the seller mentioned this in trying to convince me it was for a single cab) It doesn't look bad but kinda awkward, at least i got it to where I cannot get my fingers through the gap. Ordered locks for it, i live in a sketchy neighborhood lol. And it would probably help in selling it, which I'm leaning more towards haha.

I hate to say it but I think he lied to you just to sell it. You can still mount it but I would make sure you have some clearance (back it away and accept the overhang @ the gate) so you don't have any rubbing/scuffing/paint damage to your truck. At least thats what I would do until I could sell it.... if I had to leave it on the truck that is o_O

Where are you at? I'll spend a few minutes and see if I can track down a reputable place for you to hit up for info on that cap.

I have to agree. I hope you can find a new home for it.
