Regarding the tow package, I don't think they've ever offered that with a 4 cylinder Tacoma. I got a Curt hitch and wiring off eBay for $175 shipped. Says it's rated for 5k pounds. I doubt I would try to tow that much, but at least the chassis and brakes can handle the weight even if the power isn't there.

The gearing is way different than an Accord, plus it's makes the torque at a much lower RPM than an Accord.

Definitely won't be passing anyone on a hill, but it'll maintain speed.

How much beer did you have!? Was your suspension bottomed out? I grew up in that general area and drove a small 4 cylinder car. We loaded that thing up with all kinds of shit and people and had no problem scooting around.

2.7, 35's and 7,200lbs. Try that in a 3.5, you'll probably plug your fawking fuel filter.

Yeah, it's pretty much like a Honey Badger or a 14 Bolt. It takes what it wants!

Hey everybody believe it or not back in the 80s we used to tow boats and trailers and ATVs and camping equipment and everything with 90 to 100 horse power Toyota four cylinders, not only were they great they were so great that they built a reputation that there still living on today. Seeing that red Tacoma with that car trailer looks awesome. It would've been a common sight back in the day.

I also heard a rumor that Toyota was working on a new four cylinder replacement, which would make sense. an all aluminum four-cylinder with more modern everything could be on its way.

I would expect a turbocharged 4 cylinder eventually, along the eco boost route. I think that may eventually be the only option in the Tacoma, maybe aside from a diesel.

Yeah, you would think they were at least pretty far along in developing something new. This is one reason I snagged the 2TR-FE, as I don't think it'll be around much longer.

Yeah I'll be glad to have one already if they change it. Not the most powerful thing in the world, but absolutely bomb proof. When it comes to replacing mine as my DD in 10 or so years I fully expect to keep it around for at least another decade as a beater/"farm" rig.

I have a 15 2.7 5sp 4WD that came with a "port installed" Toyota hitch, wiring and plug for a 4 pin connector. Listed on the sticker.
It's not a "Tow package" officially, but I appreciated it was installed already.

There were turbo 4 rumors for the 2016, too.

You will see the newer Turbo 4-cylinder presently used in a few Lexus models first appear in a Toyota SUV in next years redesigned RAV4 then it will migrate to other Toyota vehicles.
