Looking to see if anyone has installed the URD Spec-U Exhaust. Would like to see some pictures of the y-pipe installed and how it comes off the front cats. I didn't know they had two different Y-pipe configurations.

@smitty99, did the search, none have Spec-U installed that I could find. If you found one with spec-U installed please post.

IMG_20170617_200611.jpg IMG_20170617_200600.jpgif you're between a y pipe and this get the spec u all day every day. Y pipe makes noise, spec u exhaust actually makes the truck faster and it sounds better if you ask me. Y pipe sounds a bit ricey no matter what muffler you have it with, I'm not really sure how but this pipe is MUCH quieter and with a lot less drone than the y pipe. Here are all my video links too
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4eLRaYSqYH5a1RfVFpOdEc0LTA/view?usp=drivesdk
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4eLRaYSqYH5WDR0LXVNbG9MWW8/view?usp=drivesdk
The ride along video is with all four windows down. On a catless pipe. Its an amazing piece of engineering IMO

Another thing to note: the y pipe will probably set off your CEL like it did on mine. The spec u will not set off a CEL, despite the fact that it removes the cats. I don't fully understand how they managed that

Also, because I see some of you were asking about clearance, the clearance on this pipe is much better than the y pipe for install. It was significantly easier to maneuver into place during the install, and it eliminates that cross section of the stock pipe that is the absolute lowest point of the truck meaning that now the diffs are the lowest point. I can take more pics too if need be just let me know.

Thanks @stevotivo12!! Exactly the type of info I was looking for. This looks like a much better routing than the URD Y pipe. This looks like the route I will go. I would want to do a before or after the axle dump. Is that doable with the muffler they supply?

Well anything is possible, but I would recommend you call URD and talk to Gadget before modding that exhaust at all, modding it may change the performance of the pipe. It comes with all the pipes to go from where the rear cats usually are, all the way back to a side exit like the stock exhaust. It's all one package

I will do that before I pull the trigger. Do you have a picture of the muffler and tail pipe connections. Is there a clamp right after the muffler? Appreciate you sharing.

This sounds pretty good. How's the clearance where it crosses? I'm guessing exhaust reroute skids will fit with this exhaust?

most likely though i cant be entirely sure until I install one at this point. It crosses over the driveshaft, so ill definitely be working out a skid plate of some sort for it but i dont know who makes one for that particular spot just yet, still doing some looking there

Yeah man! I got you IMG_20170617_200611.jpg IMG_20170615_153317.jpg IMG_20170615_153252.jpgokay so the first two are the crossover point at the driveshaft. You can see it's about two inches from the shaft at the clsest point, so definitely gonna need a big fat old skid right there. Next two are the shots of the rear exhaust. Looking at it now your best bet might be to cut the exhaust to just after the axle because of that hanger welded to the pipe just after the clamp

The clearance at the transfer case looks great. I think anyones transfer case skid will work. Not sure you need a skid at the Y pipe connection that looks like it is no lower than the stock exhaust.

I think I would just get a turn down made or maybe URD will make one. So it dumps right at the muffler. That is a hanger on the exit end of the muffler right?

Looking at this picture now, 4x innovations makes a skid plate set that ends after the tcase and uses a frame mounted crossbar to mount that protrudes over the driveshaft. Looks like that's the move, I'd guess there's gonna be about 6" of clearance between skid and exhaust, plenty of room for that skid to take punishment :boink:tacomatcaseskid6Lx.jpg

It's actually higher than both the y pipe and the stock exhaust connection! They moved the connection at the y pipe up significantly for ease of install because the original y pipe came down 3-4 inches there which made it literally impossible to remove or reinstall if neccessary. And yeah the overall clearance of the system is epic. Everywhere along the pipe it hugs the underside of the cab with just enough clearance not to melt my rubberized undercoating off  as for the hanger, yes that's a hanger but it's welded to the pipe, not the clamp. I'm sure Gadget could make you a turn down if you're set on that bro, I could see where you might want to go that way too because it does have a pretty big exhaust tip to smash into the rear bumper if that's the way you're looking at it

Sweet! Like you said clearance doesn't look like it will be an issue no matter which way you go with skids so that's the good news.

Thanks again for sharing @stevotivo12 . I plan on calling them this week to see if they can do the dump. I had cut my stock system the same time I did the lift. If I could get away with it I would do the Spec U with the URD Power Extractor Pipes with a CAI and have OVtune do a custom tune for it.
