A Class III hitch was included in the factory Towing Package, but hitches were also available as accessories. Having a hitch doesn't necessarily mean you have the Tow Package.

The transmission oil cooler was included in the Towing Package only on automatics. Is your Taco an automatic?

Is one of them a sort of 'mini-radiator' mounted next to the radiator? If so, that sounds like an aftermarket cooler of some sort.

There's no such thing as a factory transmission oil cooler on 1995.5 - 2004 Tacomas with manual transmissions.

If you mean a factory *engine* oil cooler - yes ... All 2001 - 2004 5VZ's have a standard oil cooler unit. However, it's not a 'mini-radiator' up front. It's a round thingie aft of the oil filter.

Look under your hood...look at the shaft that you fan is on. Look for the colour that it is. The 1st. gen had different colours for the different load/towing caps. If it is "millitary green" your truck is rated for 3500lbs payload/350lbs tounge. If the shaft is "hot pink/magenta" then it is rated for 5000lbs payload/500 tounge.

I used to have a 2000 extra cab 4X4 TRD SR5 and it was rated at 5000/500lbs, BUT it did not come with a hitch!!! At the same time, my cousin's 2002 extra cab 4X4 TRD SR5 was rated for only 3500/350lbs. and it DID come with a hitch!!!

So, the factory hitch is NOT an indicator of it's rateing. You need to look at the cooling fan shaft's colour. Sounds stupid I know, but that really is the way to tell.

If it is PINK/MAGENTA then it DOES have the bigger trans cooler. I do not know if it has an additional oil cooler though. I do remember that when I bought mine I explisitly made sure mine was the 5000/500lbs one that CAN tow the increased amount. So, my thinking is that if it was rated for more weight, they put whatever extra coolering devices in that was needed.

then your truck doesnt come equipped with the tow package. it is possible though to make your truck have the tow package by changing out the orange fan clutch for the green fan clutch, adding a transmission cooler, and of course the hitch. thats for the automatics though, not sure about the manual trannys
