infield party wasn't that good, although I met up with a UGA crowd and was able of their drunk football game... It was PRICELESS.

shit I don't like to leave the house much anymore because I hate that it's an ordeal to go 5miles up the road (traffic all day everyday)

Born and bred in a rural part of the state, I learned early that the lower the health dept. score, the better the BBQ. Unfortunately, I live in a town that thinks itself rather Cosmopolitan, but tries to cater (or appropriate) to the old ways. So I find myself compromising somewhat and eating in places that are much cleaner than the BBQ joints I grew up frequenting. Here are my go-to spots for BBQ in Athens:

My old neighborhood favorite is White Tiger in the Boulevard neighborhood. They do a brunch too, with pulled pork on pancakes. LEGIT. Getting a little frou-frou clientele though, since they've been on Food Network or whatever. Chips, grilled cabbage, slaw, or mac'n cheese sides.

Pulaksi Heights BBQ on Pulaski street is down & around the corner from White Tiger. It's "nicer," but still tastes decent. It's like high-brow BBQ. Next to train tracks just down from the local CSX office. Good sides but go early before they run out. Fresh veggies, great casseroles. Two sauce options.

Dawg Gone Good BBQ is legit. It's downtown on Hancock. It started as a pop-up, serving ribs and pulled pork to the late night crowd before getting their own storefront nearby.

We usually tailgate at the games and have 2-3 tables full of food. Best BBQ in the world is here in Butts Co...Fresh Air BBQ.

It's an art. My modus operandi is this:

noon games: I don't like to attend live. I watch them with friends. We have a designated spot (the shed) we watch every game we don't go to. We drink and eat, but the sole focus is on football. We usually are watching 3 games at once lol.

afternoon games: Drink like a fish until about 1. go into the game with a good buzz. Drink water during the game. Get drunk afterwards

night games: same MO as afternoon games, but I drink like a fish until 5-6. Not a fan of attending these games either b/c I get home too late.

Not a fan of watching games in bars.

fresh air is good stuff, pulled pork is on point. Usually for our tailgates we smoke a few butts or briskets the night before, and cook all day there.
