AAL Install. (second gen)

I can't remember... Are the deaver aals directional? Front and back or it doesn't matter which way?

 

Yes - short side goes toward the front. I think. Or maybe the back. There's definitely a right and a wrong way though.

There's a discussion in that thread about installing it backwards, maybe intentionally ... not really sure what's going on with those guys.

 

Thanks for helping. I just got off the phone with deaver. They said some or their single AALs are made with the hole in the center. Sure as shit I went outside and measured and it's in the middle. Was hoping they were installed wrong because I lost some height in the past year. Dakars coming soon

 

I just did this on my 3rd gen and it was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. I only had to remove the clip for the parking brake cable and didn't have to remove the other brake line clips on mine. I rented a bay at the hobby shop on base and was able to do the install by myself.

My deaver leaf was 14" both sides. no way to put it backwards

 

Hello! So I've got two questions on this one.... I bought my truck with a procomp lift on it. The truck just turned over 105K and I have no idea when the lift was put on - I'm assuming very early in the trucks life given the bushing wear and slowly fading shocks. I'm looking at putting an icon stage IV complete kit on and was wondering if I would be able to add their AAL pack to the AAL that's already on the truck. For whatever reason, Toyota replaced my leafs under the TSB like 4 months ago so my leaf kit is basically brand new besides the old AAL. Second question is does anyone have experience with the icon AALs (install and/or quality)? Thanks!

 

There's been some questions about the torque spec the ubolt nuts so I thought I'd share this....OP mentions a torque of around 75 ft/lbs which seemed reasonable to me; however, another member mentioned a torque over 100 ft/lbs.
Here are the Icon AAL instructions for the kit I just installed last night. It reads 120 ft/lbs.

I'm guessing this higher torque is due to adding more height to the spring stack.

 

I was in a similar boat. I just bought an 05, but the leafs were recently replaced. Since they're brand new, I opted for an AAL in the interim until I get a new leafpack in a year or two. As far as install, it's pretty much the same procedure as this, except the overload leaf gets removed.

 

I just installed an Icon progressive AAL last night and the install was straightforward and not too difficult. I kept the overload in as I will be pulling a 3000lb travel trailer. I gained about 2 inches from ground to fender over my rear wheels but i expect it will settle some. I'll post before and after pictures later.

 

Not sure if this has been covefed already or not, bit were extended length shocks used for this aal?

Also, were the brake lines and bump stops modified?

You'll want longer shocks than OEM, but don't need anything crazy. Some regular 5100s will do. And as far as brake lines and bump stops, no. You won't need to modify them.

 

So the 0-1" 5100's or the extended length ones? I already bought the aal and was planning on installing it next weekend but saw a bunch of threads of guys saying to use extended length ones.. seems like it's 50/50.

 

The regular ones are fine. Different vendors give different measurements on it, but they're good for 2.5-3" lift

I know this is an old thread Chris,but how much lift if any did you get by putting the add a leafs on ? I have a prerunner and need just a little extra help in the back due too a tool box and tools

 

This may not be any help to you, but when I put them on, I forgot to measure the rear stock height. I measured the front, and got just about 3", and the truck was sitting pretty much level. I guessed that the rear was raised about 1.5 inch or so.
