4" lift rear shocks, 4" uptravel

Is your truck level at 4"? Also, hub to fender and shock travel/length isnt the best way to measure. If you can, you should pull the shock and flex out the suspension. Measure at fully extended and fully compressed from shock mount to shock mount. That will give you what size shock you need.

Looks like the shock is a 12" shock mounted in the stock location. You could raise the mount and even it out, like most running extended shocks. Hard to tell, but those blocks don't quite look 4" either, but I'm also looking at it on a small ass screen.

Should take 45min to figure it out.

this is why you measure shit before you buy shocks..... you bought shocks that were WAY WAY too long for your setup.

Lets do some math.

4 inchs of shock travel left

6.25 inches of space between bumpstop and frame, not to mention compression of the bump stop (lets say 1/2 the height of the bumpstop so add an inch and a half to 2 in more) so a total of lets just keep round numbers of 9in of possible up travel


Yeah you need to get proper length shocks, relocate the top mount of your current ones, or extend your bumpstops SIGNIFICANTLY (not recommended)

What you really need to do is pull a shock out and go fully compress that side, Measure from the center of the bottom eye, to the bottom mounting surface of the upper shock mount. Then subtract 3/4in for saftey and that is your MAXIMUM compressed shock length.

That is the only measurement you need, as at that point the extended and travel lenghts are essentially determined by the bounds of your compressed shock length.

 

Thanks for all the info. I thought they looked way too compressed. If you look at my original post you'll see I'm installing sumo springs. They are 6" and can only compress to 3". I am going tonight to a fabricator to talk about a shock relocate. Until then the sumo springs will stop from bottoming out.

 

But if you have 6.5in of space between the sumo spring and frame, and only 4 in from shock bottom the sumo spring doesnt even touch!!! (unless i read your measurements wrong)

 

As it sits the sumo is in contact with the frame. 3" max compression leaves me 1" to spare.

 

I think you need to reevaluate your setup if you haven't already purchased the springs

 

Springs are already installed. I'm going to do a mount relocate and Dakars eventually. I think she can hold for now.

 

This is totally not ideal. But I don't have time right now to remove and reinstall my 5100s. Plus... I really like it at this height.

 

I want to use the sumo springs for sure and would like to keep the 4" lift in the rear. What set up would you suggest? I would imagine the shock relocation would solve my issues.

 

After reading this entire thread and looking at the pictures, I wouldn't take that rig wheeling any time soon. You are going to crush a shock housing no doubt about it. They are way too long.

 

Ok.... Can someone please answer my previous question? Will a shock relocation bracket solve this issue? I'm meeting up with a fabricator tomorrow.

 

Well most likely it will help, but thats really not the proper way to fix this.

 

What would you suggest?

 

Buy the correct shocks for your truck. Its much better than grinding and welding parts of your frame.

Rear shocks are cheap.
