Hood Scoop Functionality?

    By "functional" do you mean open it up? Or actually mean to make it into a "Ram air" set up? If the latter, it wouldnt work as the hood scoop lies in a low pressure area of the hood, meaning i would more likely pull air out of it. :)

    Myself personally...No. However, I have seen another Taco Brother that actually removed the inside black plastic in order for the heat to escape quicker. Hence cooling the engine. A lot of heat did come out and it seems like a good idea. I just didn't care for the look. I'm sure there's a way around that one. I don't know...food for thought.

    My Dad is a Pilot. We owned an Airplane when I was in high school, and he insisted that I studied aerodynamics and some mechanical physics. Thru the years I have toyed with my vehicles and studied their aerodynamics. As I got into Forced induction, I wanted to find the best location for an intake to feed the blower. Naturally, I thought that the best location would be on top of the hood, near the middle, as I have seen many like this on TV, and on the track. Turns out, its a low pressure zone on the hood. You can see it in action a little bit when it rains. Watch how the water drops get buffeted around on the hood. :)

    I thought about doing this also, even went as far as taking the plastic inside the scoop out. Then I thought about it and decided it wasn't worth it and bolted it right back on. I figured one more entrance into the engine compartment, especially from the hood and facing forward, was just another way for more dirt and grime to make its way into the engine compartment, with no real gains to be had.......

    I used a Drimmel and cut out sections in the black plastic behind the screen. I am not sure if I have any gains with it or not - but there is no real harm... I haven't noticed any excess water in the engine that doesn't already occur from the huge openings under the engine....
