Summer road trip.

Got up this morning and drove from Marfa to Big Bend. Went about 30 miles down Old Ore "Road" to the Boquillas border crossing. Got in a row boat and went across the Rio Grande, then got on a donkey and rode into town. Checked the town out for a while and then had some tamales and cervezas. Left there and drove out past Terlingua and Lajitas to the house we're staying in for the night. The back porch hangs over the Rio Grande, so all I see is Mexico. We ate at the Starlight Theater in Terlingua Ghost Town, great chili. Once I get the charger for my laptop I will be dumping mucho photos on here.

 

Oh and also to everyone warning me about the heat... This shit is a cake walk. 110° here feels like 90° at home. Try some humidity sometime...nothing like being basted in your own juices just going to check the mail.

Yeah you know, your comment made me think. Too often you hear people talking about all of these 'exotic' places and how they want to travel and see the world. I grew up in the southeast and my family is still there....all I ever hear is Italy this, Europe that. I've been a lot of places man and hands down the most beautiful places I have ever been have been in the continental U.S. Just strange that theres such a fascination with far off places when most people have never even seen 1% of what we have to offer right in our own backyard.
