Same block and same heads? just different valve timing? The RC is not a light car....does it feel sluggish in the RC?

The same tune would probably need 91octane.

Even the Ecoboost runs on 87 octane. Maybe Toyota didn't think truck buyers wanted to put 89+ in their cars? Or may mistakenly put 87 octane and get engine knock.

Technically, all of the the numerical designations on an MB were .1 liter bigger than the actual motor size due to German law. The older (but amazing) M156 was a 6.208 liter motor rather than a 6.3. But because of German law/taxes, it has to be registered as a 6.3 (so you couldn't cheat by going to 6.2999 liter motor). Same with the older M113K supercharged motors. C55/E55/SL55 AMG, etc all were 5.4 v8s with or without the supercharger (C/SLK did not have the supercharger).

To add to the confusion, the v12 cars with the designation of 600 or 65 AMG were either 5.5 or 6.0 respectively.

It's just that in the car naming world, no one wants to go smaller. Thus, they are keeping the 63 AMG name because no one wants to pay that much more over the v6 twin turbos with a "paltry" 43 AMG name.

    Sorry, off topic.

I only use 91 octane as it is, regardless of the requirement. It doesn't cost that much more where I am located. I think it is cleaner due to the detergents used in the longer burning fuel. Even if the current engine management adjusts to nullify the combustion benefit.

Is there any real reason to run 91 octane in this truck?

    Removed the air dam lol
Dude, the way it drives is what makes it a gutless turd. Nobody is asking for v8 sports car feel. The Atkinson is not the problem. The engine does have the power in it, its just very restricted. Big difference.

So literally what I wrote? The throttle response IS the cause of the delay and restriction because of the tuning of the pseudo atkinson (VVT-i) and whatever torque mapping (tune) Toyota decided to use. The power you seek happens. Just press the throttle down a bit more.

Actually, no. It doesn't happen. As it has been covered in this thread multiple times. Regardless of how much you actually put the throttle down, the ECU limits the amount the throttle plate actually opens. I have almost gotten into wrecks because of the lack of response and power this truck offers.

The whole purpose of me purchasing a truck with a manual transmission was to have full control of my driving controls. I think its insane that I am being limited on throttle control by the computer. Im sure the OVtune will fix this issue.

No one on this site, specifically this thread, who is interested in the OVtune is expecting a tremendous increase in power. Nor are we upset with the amount of power the truck can have. Its the lack of response and limitations that is the key issue here.

Does any logging for any car show TB opening at 100%? Serious question.

Why do you people (what do you mean you people?!) keep repeating in different words of what we are both agreeing on? lol

I read up a little on the website and it looks like possible 20HP and 20FTLBS of Torque max gain? If so I hope that 20/20gain is at 2000rpm. I dont need anything more at 5500rpm. My 3.slow 4runner has better low end

Dang, I wish I would have been on this sooner to be a part of this.

I'll have to take a visit down to the shop, literally, a 10 minute drive :)

    Looks to be promising.

They may be looking for another truck test on the rollers.

I got in under the wire and they were definitely looking for TRD 6mt trucks for testing. I would imagine us MT guys would get in ahead if you would be willing to drive down and let them put your truck on the dyno. Being so close I'm sure if you asked nicely they would oblige.

I'll just have to do so.

Tomorrow I have off, and they come back from leave, so I'll swing by and pay them a visit :)

Sounds like a plan. Let us know how it goes. I get the impression from posts here and my email correspondence that they are a competent and professional group. The website isn't great, but I don't really care.
