Yea, I didn't buy my truck for racing or tractor pulling for that matter. My truck does exactly what I expected it would do when I bought it.

I don't even understand what your point is. Either you are missing words or auto correct has bitten you.

You want to know what I have driven before my Tacoma? Lots of shit, i'll list some of it. Last Toyota I had was an '08 FJ 6 speed(manual). It was junk. Made in Japan junk. Bought new with .8 miles on it. I mean I still loved it, but it was not a good vehicle. The tranny was the worst part of the vehicle, easily. But the acres of plastic that scratched if you sneezed in it, the squeaking brakes, squeaking clutch pedal, bulging fenders, rev hang, throw out bearings (X2!!!) that chirped, gearing that always had you off by about half a gear and synchros that quit syncing resulting in a replacement tranny all sucked. All that and then some in less than 3 years. To Toyota's credit, I carfaxed it last year and it now lives in Virginia and had almost 140K on it.

Since I listed all of that, I will give you a partial list of my other vehicles: I owned 2 turbo subarus, a GM one ton truck, and a VW GTI w/DSG. I bought the Chevy with over 100K on it, so it's not really a fair comparo, but all of these vehicles were far more reliable than my Toyota, even the VW, with the DSG! The only time I had to go for unscheduled service was a rattling heat shield on the GTI.

Bottom line is I am not a Toyota fan boy by any means. I bought it because the only vehicle I cross-shopped was a GMC Canyon, and while I loved the power it made with the V6, I didn't care for the exterior styling (bed is way too high in back for short guy like me) and the interior had the feel of a 90's pontiac.

I just happen to have no issues with my truck and how it shifts. It's a double OD tranny, it's gonna kick down twice when you go to pass. It's gonna kick down twice going up hills. You are not even gonna sniff 6th into a headwind. I tow a lot with it and use S4 and ECT, 0 problems with power, I actually find it wants to keep pulling to a speed faster than I want to tow at. I have recently been playing with ECT and S mode while not towing and am loving it. I still think a true 6 speed auto with 5 and 1 OD would be better, but I can't build my own transmission, so I got what I got. I have had no TSB's applied, nor I have I had the fluid manually checked. Honestly, after reading some of the comments here, I am guarding my tranny like a farmer would his daughter.

    Wut else do you want?

See, wasn't so hard. I asked, you answered. Seems I frustrated you with the question because you explained your whole life story to me instead though. Yes the old 6spd manual was a pain, I can agree with that. Also never said anyone was a Toyota fan boy, don't know where that came from. "I just happen to have no issues with my truck and how it shifts." This pretty much gave me all the info I needed besides what you drove. In an essence, you are the minority of owners that actually enjoy the transmission and that's perfectly fine, but when a vehicle manufacturer has to create multiple tsb's for a new transmission because the majority of people complained, there must be some sort of problem, engine or transmission wise. You do understand I was speaking with @Jimsc and you "blew up" on me correcting myself because I made a mistake and was trying to fix it with him? You also understand this is the direct reason why others "blow up" on antagonistic people like yourself? I wasn't even speaking with you in the first place sir.

It was confusing at first but if people actually went back and read the original posts, you wouldn't even have to think. Mind. Blown.

I quoted a blanket, ignorant statement you made. Sorry, I didn't realize you were having a private conversation in a public forum, about a vehicle you don't even own. I gave you a brief run down because you asked... Silly me for feeding a troll.

You continue to make more blanket statements that are incorrect... They've created 2 TSB's as far as I am aware, and one was for the delay in shifting out of reverse. Majority of the people complained huh? Ok.

But please continue to regurgitate TW complaints.

    You're soft.

I am going to try to replace my CPS and clean my MAF and see if that will fix some of the issues I have with my car.

If that doesn't work, I am either trading it in for a 2015 Tacoma, or waiting for the ranger and frontier and trading it in for one of those.

:woot: Finally a man with a plan, keep us posted on how cleaning the MAF and replacing the CPS goes. If all else fails, follow through and snatch a 2nd gen while you can!

3rd gen beats 2nd in towing gauntlet by 45 seconds, not a car length (which seems to pump your adrenaline). Now that's not losing, that's embarassing.
    :benchpress:
And it can't even tow as much. Pathetic.
I would worry about that more than focusing on a car length in the 1/4.

Let me put the two here so you can watch them again.
    https://youtu.be/UVC-JZ-5i2Y
    https://youtu.be/DCkBmiZV09w
Multiple times during the 2nd gen test they explained "it's not about time, it's about how it tows" If you also watched them properly you would notice not only did they have to change lanes many times because of traffic during the 2nd gen test, but they also had to slow down at one point for traffic. Compare that to the 3rd gen test which was almost completely clear the entire way up. 45 seconds doesn't mean a thing in there test nor should it to anyone who tows. To be honest, if you factor in the traffic they occurred, both "timed" runs are pretty much exactly the same. Again both have great features and they could definitely feel that the 3rd gen had better acceleration on the top end because of its increased hp compared to the 1GR, but the 2nd gen held up its end of the bargain and easily tows just as well minus not having a built in brake controller, but some aftermarket brake controllers trump anything an OEM can manufacturer. And yes, the 2nd gen did win by a car length.

Can we all just accept the fact that all Tacoma's are badass? Man, I see these ugly ass Chevy's and F150's on the road and I just think to myself that I am blessed to be driving my badass little Tacoma. I see dudes with 6 inch lifts, massive tires, and huge exhausts coming out of their diesel trucks that never do work and I'm like man it must suck to be that insecure about your dick, and I drive off in my Tacoma. Dodging panty hose in this thing everywhere I drive. All the dudes my age are driving mustangs and camaros. I'm over here picking up their girlfriends in my Tacoma. Much love to all Tacoma owners.

That's why I never try to belittle anyone while I slam them with factso_O lol I can agree, Tacomas are awesome but I drive a 17 F-150 Lariat with the 2nd gen 3.5 TT and new 10 spd and it's probably my next favorite truck, my 07 always comes first :D

This thread is cracking me up.

Honestly do whatever you want, but I can see why someone would want an older model. Less gadgets, simpler design, more room to work on stuff, etc.., most of the kinks have been ironed out by forums and the aftermarket. Parts even seem cheaper for the older trucks, especially the first gens. That's a plus in my opinion. If you just want a truck that's cheap and easy to maintain it makes sense.

I don't think it's a matter of what's best, it's just what is going to suite your needs.

    First world problems guys haha!

The amount of turd gen owners that claim 'superiority' over the 2nd gen is HILARIOUS. I just imagine them sitting in their truck (probably at the dealer ), posting away on this thread, while listening for new rattles and clunks.

Yeah, no. The 2nd gens are great trucks, but the 3rd gens are much better looking, and much more modern.
