Options package mainly, I like bells and whistles inherited from luxury cars.

Premium + Tech package, sunroof, push button start, better screen, power rear window, yes the exterior appearance, OEM wheel worth more when I sell em, etc.

I almost went with an SR5 since I planned on modding everything anyway then my truck popped up at my buddies dealership. It was a special order and the guy backed out to buy a Tundra. Basically the exact config I wanted in a Taco. Once I threw the Clazzios in, it feels like a little luxury truck.

The 4x4 vs 4x2 conflicts are strange. People care about other peoples drive wheels waaaaaay too much. I got 2WD because I have no use 4WD, and it just drives the cost/maintenance of lifting it where I want.

Reading your post and thinking - yes - clean is a very succinct description. No fender flares, no skewp, no decals on the bed, and I debadged mine last week, "clean" and really happy....14972710381261928646966.jpg
And the chrome bumper caps are going away soon....back in black

I own a DCSB 4x4 SR5. I mainly hunt, fish, and camp. I don't do any serious off-roading, rather sometimes 4-wheeling to get to the best hunting spot.

Also, I notice a lot of guys buying the more expensive models to then strip most of what their added costs were in order to upgrade. But like many have already said, the locker is the main difference.

A coworker just traded his 2nd gen in for a 3rd gen, sr5. He had them remove the chrome, and install the black. Such a beautiful thing.

Also I heart your sticker. I'm the little second section from the front, I believe you are the third?

I remember being back in the west coast I was like aww dang it I wanna be a part of the snake

I am DIGGIN' that truck man. +1 for Residents of Texas with Tacomas!

I too own an SR5 and it's a daily driver as well. I didn't need to spend the extra $4-5K for something I'd never use. I see 98% pavement.

    This.
But, TRD OR 4x2? Is it just for the sticker then? The options inside? Isn't this what the Limited is for?
Anyways, yes, to each their own. I live in Michigan, so 4x4 or AWD is a must for winters.

I got an SR5, and love her. I don't need all the frills and couldn't justify paying more for them. If I want something, I will mod it one at a time as I need it. I'll probably end up paying less overall, spread the cost over 5-10 years, and have exactly what I want added.

I'm a 2nd Gen owner and I frequent the 3rd Gen forums because I'll be in the market for a new truck in the near future. The only truck that I've actually looked at and sit in was a 17 TRD Pro. It was extremely nice inside and out. I've been looking online at everthing from the SR to the Pro. My current truck is a 08 SR dbl cab with 190k miles. I've installed a lift(5100's, OME springs,& AAL) FJ Cruiser TRD wheels, condura seat covers, undercover bed cover and a few odds and ends. I'm not a serious wheeler but I've had my truck in some pretty hairy places getting to various hunting and fishing spots. I live in the mountains of WV and we get some pretty heavy snow storms and I drive 100 miles a day to work over 3 mountains one of which is seldom cared for in the winter. My truck has always came through and performed flawlessly when I need it. With that being said I'm now leaning more toward the SR5 because the work I've done on my current truck has let me get to know my vehicle on a personal level. I made this truck what I wanted and I'll be able to spend the extra $$$$ to personalize my new truck. I plan on a lift and tires right out of the gate.

Tacomas are one of the rare vehicle models where the premium trim levels (TRD's on up) are high sellers, and I've always wondered why.

By me, I'd say around 90% of Tacomas are TRD's.

I believe Toyota once said the number was around 40%, which is still crazy.
