    Greetings,
My Maint Reqd light blinks 4 or 5 times (and then turns off) after the other idiot lights turn off. Is this normal for a 2013 PreRunner?

You're coming up on an oil change.

It will flash 5 times and then turn off. When you hit the 5k interval it'll stay lit until reset.

You can find reset instructions online with a quick Google. Takes 5 seconds. Can't remember sequence offhand.

The check engine light or the maint light? Two totally different lights

The check engine light blinks for maintenance? I thought there was a separate maintenance light for that?

Not saying it isn't true (I don't have a 2nd gen after all), just seems odd considering a continually blinking CEL is usually indicative of a major malfunction. I'd be sweating bullets looking at that light blinking hoping it would go off after a few seconds, lol.

Are you sure it's the check engine light?

In that case, it's nearing time to change your oil if you're planning on changing every 5k. You can click on @JimboAnz's link above for instructions on how to turn it off once you do change it.

Check engine light doesn't blink, fellas.

    That was a clue.

    OR WAS IT?

Don't feel bad, the first time my Maint Req light came on I immediately pulled over and bought a code reader. I was very confused for awhile when it said my truck was healthy.

Did this change at some point? I know at some point a flashing OBDII CEL meant that something was very wrong and potentially causing damage to the cats.

Would assume any fault that would trigger a CEL wouldn't let the CEL disappear after 5 blinks.

Check engine light blinks if it's misfiring

    Interesting.

I had a misfire on my 2013 many times and don't recall that. Was 4 years ago, so I have an excuse. :anonymous:

Usually when it's bad enough for the ecu to start thinking worse case scenario and start dumping fuel. Cat damage will occur. Blinking check engine light means shut it down dumbass!! A minor misfire won't make the engine light blink. I'm sure somebody here knows the number of how many misfires it takes to get the light to blink.
