Help me understand this trend

Who I am? Sorry, but I'm just citing something that anyone can observe in this thread. There's literally no reason to say the sport is definitively better than the offroad, or vice versa, because car selection is never objective- everyone has a view of what they think is cool that intervenes. But, if you scroll this thread, you'll find people defending that opinion like their life depends on it. That's fanboyism by definition.

I'm hyped for all the guys with badass Sports. It's not for me, but I still appreciate them. Just like I'm hyped for the people with badass Pros and SR5s. They're all Tacomas. I will, however, stand by my opinion that it's ridiculous to try to argue til you're blue in the face about why someone shouldn't get the model they want.

See my edit to the post you quoted, but my sentiment towards the trim levels is that they're all cool. I'm a Tacoma fanboy. I suppose yes, I did label people, but I stand by it because they are behaving true to the definition.

hey hey hey lets not bicker and argue about whos got the best Tacoma lets just all agree to hate the ridgeline!

 

At the time I bought mine (second gen), the features I wanted (minus locker) were only available in the Sport. Locker is easily remedied with an air locker (air lockers engage faster and more reliably). I have done a lot of off-roading and have yet to need lockers. I do intend to install a rear ARB in the future.
Third Gen...crawl control is cool but just more gadgetry in my opinion. One should have appropriate recovery gear, know how to use it, and enjoy the achievement of getting oneself unstuck with manual labor that exceeds just pressing a button. And believe me, Crawl control will not replace recovery gear and knowledge.
Last thing, I'm six foot two. I can't imagine being so short that the scoop blocks my view.
I will agree that I am getting annoying glare on occasion and intend to matt out that portion.

Oh and by the way, my custom suspension on my Sport is the OME BP-51s with Dakar rear springs and I installed this for serious ride enhancement, weight capacity (full skids, dual batteries, ARB twin compressor, and soon 12k winch in U.S. Offroad mount) and....a little more clearance. I lost a smidge of clearance with the skids and regained it and some back with the BP-51s.

The problem with forums is you have a whole lot of keyboard warriors that think their opinions are fact and then spout uneducated nonsense to everyone on the board.

Both models are great and off the showroom floor will work great on road or off. Both can me modified to work better on road, off road, or in both conditions. In the end, the best model is the one suited to the purchaser for his or her intended use and or modification.

 

yes 1st gens are the best, 2nd gens are better and 3rd are better.

Back in the early 80's I was sitting in an infamous biker bar outside of Fresno, CA. with a friend. we had been out on a ride (he on a stock Honda 650 and myself on my self built custom Yamaha XS1100 special). We were downing a few cold ones and playing pool when a large group of Hells Angels began coming in in twos and threes. We were both pretty sure we were going to take a bunch of crap for riding Jap bikes. However, to a person they said things to the effect that if it puts a smile on your face that's all that matters. We had a great time with them (though I wisely declined to shoot pool with them having discovered in the past that even if you win...if you're out numbered you will loose).

That's the way I feel about trucks and vehicles in general. If they make you happy and they serve the purpose you intended them for I am happy for you.

 

I don't know whats going on with the pic, but I can tell you this. Saucony Jazz are the shit. I used to wear them back in the day.
