Ok TW, I installed my Diode Dynamics Lowbeam HID kit last weekend along with their xml2 fogs at 5000k for both. Very very happy with them and now want to match my highbeams while still gaining performance. My question now is what bulb will suit my wants for the highbeam?

I basically want something between 4000k-5000k with more output than stock. I beleive 4300k is max lumens but correct me if not.

Most of my search has led me to overly filmed halogens resulting in equal or worse output than stock. It also doesn't sound like LEDs are viable as their throw is very bad in our housings. Is what I'm asking even possible for our highbeams?

The 4300K refers to the color, not the lumens which refer to output.

I'm aware it's a temperature measurement, however I was under the impression that as you progress higher in temperature you lose lumens.

That is correct. Anything past 6000k and it starts dropping off more. 4300-5500k has the most amount of lumens

Technically, i think you are correct. Once you get into the upper part of the range 8000k-ish you start getting into non-visible light....i think :playball:

Here's a video i found a few months ago that really highlights the differences in LED bulbs/brands. I just ordered the nineo bulbs and should be getting them today.

EDIT: apparently 6000k is where the drop off happens

Common courtesy is to turn off your high beams when there is oncoming traffic.

OP already upgraded his low beams. He was asking about high beams, so I assumed that's what you were talking about.

I would avoid any halogens with blue film on them. They just make the headlight look whiter. In reality doesn't make them any brighter and often does the opposite and makes them less bright.

That being said PIAA/Orsam/Phillips do make some great halogen bulbs. I put the Orsam Silverstar (not the ultra's) in my lowbeams they have a faint coating on them so it looks whiter but is really no brighter then the OEM bulbs. Best thing to do is do research on websites that specifically test light bulbs (candlepowerforum, hidplanet for example)

The 3rd gen has two separate bulbs. One in a projector housing for low beams. high beam is in a reflector housing next to it.

So based on that video it looks like there are two worthwhile options for LED highbeams.

    https://headlightrevolution.com/201...high-beam-headlight-bulb-upgrade-gen-3-bulbs/

    https://headlightrevolution.com/201...gh-beam-headlight-bulb-upgrade-supernova-v-3/

Anyone have experience with either in our housing?

IMHO, that is a lot for a high beam upgrade.

I know how crazy bright my fogs are and they weren't optimized to throw like a halogen. If those gtr Gen 3s can throw like a halogen and shine like my xml2s from DD I'm in.
