Obz Build Thread, with a Harley, and now a Tundra (Pic Heavy)

Looked at yours as well as icon stage 4. But don't know if I need that much extra stuff with the lift since I won't get the chance to off-road as much as I want to and I spend 6 months away every year.

 

Both are good kits. The largest difference is progressive valving vs digressive valving. Guys that run Icon's LOVE their Icons, and the same is true with Kings and Fox. IMO, you can't go wrong with any of them. I looked very seriously into Icon, but they were backordered for quite some time. That's what made me pivot more than anything to Kings.

 

I guess my thinking is. Do I really need a lift kit with the remote reservoirs. Or can I get away with not having them. I know without a doubt I need ucas.

 

What did you use to achieve this? Was it plasti dip, if so what color just black?

Also I'm looking into the leather seat option did you just do black single stitching for those they look great! Amazing build all around.

 

Frankly if you're not going to be doing hard-core off-roading, remote reservoirs are definitely not a necessity. Nice to have, but not required. If you want your alignment to line up, add 33's, and get good height, UCA's are going to be required no question. That said, if you keep your wheel offset down you might be able to pull it off without.

 

Nope, just satin engine paint. Plastidip will not handle the temps and will make a mess. Stay away from that stuff on your exhaust. As for the seats, I did silver stitching with black all around. Gotta keep a little contrast.

Well, got some more work done on the Harley yesterday but wanted to make sure I highlighted the keyfob! Got the exhaust mounted, handle bars mounted, turn signals mounted, rerouted the ignition to clear the petcock, got the carburator and new longer throttle cables put together as well. My wife said, "it's finally starting to look like a bike again!" Can't agree more. Anyway, pics below:

Close up of ignition, also you can see the choke there... not too sure I like how it's currently mounted. I'm using some zip-ties, and I don't love how well it's holding it. May end up moving it.

 

Did you come up with a fix for the e break bracket?

 

No, still rolling the zip ties and I frankly had totally forgotten about it. Seems like I could just drill into the new bracket and use a thread cutter to make a nice hole to screw into. Probably should look into that.

 

Got a few things done today. Sorry for the kinda crappy pictures, I'll get some better ones tomorrow. Got the intake all mounted up. Can I just say the Arlen Ness instructions kinda suck? Anyway, got that taken care of, and also picked up all my stuff from powder coat. Let me tell you, it looks AWESOME! Put on the new powder coated oil tank cover and battery cover, got the headlight mounted too. Had to drill a hole through the lower triple tree, but the gloss black looks AWESOME! Re-mounted the chock using the stock mount bracket. Looks much better, but I'm worried that it'll hit the petcock. Guess we'll see. Also bought a chrome cover for the front of the triple trees that comes on the custom's and powdered it gloss black to finish off the front end. Oh, and can't forget, got the new clutch cable mounted up and finished buttoning up the left-hand controls. That side is ready to roll. Right side is about 75% there, but need to get the throttle cables all done up there too. Anyway, tomorrow will be finishing up some of the wiring and testing it, then 15K service time. I promise I'll get some better pictures too.

 

As promised, a few more pictures. Did the primary fluid change today as well, but didn't want to do oil until I got my stuff all back together and could run the engine. Also removed the stupid charcoal tank. It's a California bike so had to plug the carb line and run the fuel overflow down through the engine. Also need to get a longer line for the carb overflow. The one that was on there is super short because it plugged into the old intake. All gone now. Finished up the right side controls too and wired up the front turn signals. Now I just need to get everything back from paint!! Anyway, pics:

Got the headlight in. Super bright!!

 

Got parts back from paint. Now it's really going to start coming together. Wheels are getting the tires mounted and will be ready tomorrow.

 

Finally starting to look like a bike! Got some stuff mounted up today. Pics below:

Tires mounted on wheels. The blue will come off once I wash the bike. It's to protect the whitewalls:

Front brake line connected and bled. Easiest bleeding that I've done yet, I must say:


Here you can see the tank lift. I tried to fit all of the wiring under the tank as best I could. Clears nice when bars are at one side or the other.


Petcock barely misses the choke. Well, it actually does it, but it just barely bends the fuel line. I think it'll survive:

Panting the rear sprocket to match the engine. I think it'll look good... a lot like the new ones. I wanted to do the 2-tone like on the 16's but freak that wasn't going to happen. Each hole would have to be masked. Out...




Once the paint is dry I'm going to mount up the rear tire. I've got some wiring I need to do to the rear end to make the run/stop/turn deal work with this year, and with the tail light delete, but should be okay. Now the million dollar question... will it still run??

 

What color are your ray-10s? Gunmetal or grey? The Tacoma looks awesome!
