That's the exact opposite of what they are supposed to do.

You've adjusted the squelch?

 

It slightly improved with the felt washer between the antenna and unit but it was so garbled up it was tough to hear much unless they were directly in front of me.

 

Damn you guys are really getting hit by the heat. 57 here right now and low to mid 70's during the day. We did stop in Atascadero on the way down south on Sunday and it was 98. Screw that, it's just miserable unless you're in a pool or AC. I feel bad for you guys.

 

I adjusted it down and up. Neither seemed to help. But this is just the presets not with the program

Double-checked that both radios were set to the same frequency? @rob1208 had his radio off the frequency just a bit once when we were on the trail. Asked him to check it and sure enough. Sounds like similar symptoms.

 

Yep all radios were 146.460

Short antenna back on and they worked great. I was confused and bamboozled.

Know what you mean. Came home Sunday to no A/C.
New blower motor arrives tomorrow, I'll deal with the heat after work and gitter done.

Mom bearing with it and presently 87 indoor.

 

I had a bad antenna right out the box. Would shut the radio off on tx.

 

One known baofeng issue is factory squelch settings, solution below

Man I feel for you guys. My foot keeps sticking to my leather ottoman in my 72* apt. It's still 98* out right now

 

It sounds like either the antenna is not making full contact on the connector or its busted. What you are describing is a broken connection with the antenna.
