need help: Bed tent

I'm using Rightline that you can find on Amazon. Good for quick trips. No problems so far. Order the 6' version

 

I have the proz bed tent from auto anything, used it a handful of times and it still looks new. Hvnt been in any rain yet tho.

 

What's the advantage? A ground tent would prevent you from having to completely unloading the bed.

I'd rather buy a good quality ground tent that I could stand up in. Might even recommend a cot to sleep on.

 

In my case my wife is the reason. She won't sleep on the ground in snake country!

 

Keep the tent zipped so snakes can't get in?

 

I Purchased the Napier Sportz 57 for my 2013 and was happy with it. Got a single AeroBed. Fits well between wheel wells. Blowing up AeroBed was a snap using the bed inverter. Now I have a 2017 and according to Napier, it should fit my new truck. Still haven't used it yet though.

I have the Rightline for my short bed. It has no floor but I believe the Napier does. With no floor you don't have to unload the bed if you don't want to. When I first set it up it was a little wonky by the door and it was hard to zip up at the middle of the door. I added a bungee to keep the tension off the door. I got the straps/poles in the right spot now and no more issues. I very had about 10 nights in this since February. 

 

Not all bed tents require you to empty the bed.

Advantage? Flat, dry, no rocks under you, etc.

Certainly not for everyone or every situation, but works great for a quick solo weekend getaway where you're not staying in the same spot two nights.

 

If even the perception of no snakes gets her to go camping then it's worth the trouble to use this setup. I also put snake shot rounds in her pistol. Just hope that she doesn't get pissed at me!

This one makes some sense. I could see using it if it was easy to use. Especially with a short bed.

 

+1 for rightline. I have a regular bed and use one, shit's easy to set up. Just remember: You HAVE to run the orange straps through your tailgate before you put your sticks in. If you don't there's a good chance you'll rip the corners of your tent.

I went with a Kamp-Rite tent cot. It's not something you can stand up in. It's just to sleep or take shelter in. The reason I chose it was because I hate the rooftop tents that sit on top of your truck like a giant mattress. This folds down and stores relatively compact in just a few minutes and can be set on the truck or on the ground. I'll set it up in the bed of the truck if I'm going to stay in the same spot for more than a day(I have a bed storage system that allows it to sit at the perfect height). Otherwise i'll put it on the ground for overnighters or when I have my dog with me.
With your typical inflatable sleeping pad (Klymit), it's incredibly comfortable.

 

When you get the replacement pole, take a hacksaw and cut off about 6" of it. Sand the edge of the pole and I would try finding some small rubber caps/tips that would slip on the end of the pole.

 

Which model is that? Do the legs rest on the bottom of the bed or is it just laid across the sides of the bed for support? Looks pretty nice to me.

 

The legs are only 11-12" tall. When it's in the back of the truck, it sits on top of the storage "system" I built back there. It's just a reinforced box that utilizes the lip on the inside of the bed for support around the edges. This allows me to carry all of my general camping gear, tools, guns, etc. out of sight in totes. Kind of a poor man's drawer system. It all just slides right in and is only accessible when the tailgate is down.
The model of tent cot is just called the Kamp-Rite Double Tent cot. It's enough to sleep two people, but I just got it for when my dog comes with me. Otherwise I would have just got the single width version.
