I will caveat by saying summer is going to be difficult for me to meet up due to kids going all over the place with camps, Scouts, vacation, etc.

 

If you can stand a meet somewhere for a Saturday afternoon or Sunday, I will try my best to be there

 

Need some help here, guys.

I've seen these things - I don't know what they are called - but you can drill a hole in a piece of metal, such a crossmember on your truck's frame, and then you insert this short tube with a flange at one end. The inside of the tube is threaded. You tighten it down and - voila! - the hole you just drilled is now threaded and you can bolt things to it.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yeah, I think that's it. Any place you know of that sells them retail or do I have to order them?

 

I'm not sure Tim but I believe fastenal has them and it may take a special tool to secure them I haven't used them in a while

 

That was going to be my next question; does it need a special tool?

It has the tool and an assortment of rivnuts so I would think so. I probably haven't installed any in like 10 years but they're a good fix

 

I made my own tool to install.
Squeezing that type of tool had no feel for me.
We call them nutserts

 

Yes i forgot that name for them also. It's been a while but they are a neat way to make attachments

 

Camping setup in WV last weekend. Need to get some of the off road pictures loaded off the camera. Hitting Flagpole Knob tomorrow if everything goes well

 

cool that's a nice setup ater we get back from the beach I'm going to have to get my wife together and go myself just have to iron out some details

 

It was nice. Easy access to the bed to grab stuff. We got lucky with rain coming the final night and day we packed up to leave which sucked but it wad a fun weekend. Great first time family camp trip. Don't forget to get a hold of me when you are down south of me

 

I head down Sundy regretfully in the RAV but since MIL is going we needed the extra room

 

I won't be back in the area until Sunday. If your still there next weekend I should be able to come down Saturday

 

I understand this thread is a bit different than others as we are all fairly spread out. I was wondering if anybody has an accumulation of mods they're wanting to get done? Could be small things to something a little bigger everybody here tends to do their own work and doesn't rely on others which I find kinda cool but perhaps a mod day could still be organized. IDK much about these trucks and I'm not much of any help physically rt now but at a mod day I could at least come and offer moral support and maybe hand you tools. I guess a look through the cheap/ free mods page and maybe could come up with something or a list of things, accumulate supplies, and maybe somebody would have available space to offer to host in a more central location. I'll be at the beach next week so was thinking maybe in a couple of weeks or so giving everybody time to get stuff together.

 

I have a few things going on, not the least of which is adding my train horns. The frustrating part right now is how and where to mount the air tank. I'm also waiting on switches to wire up a panel in my console. The switch panel will also include switches for the Bun Warmers when I get my Katskin seats.

The problem is not just where to put the tank and how (that's why I was looking in to using Rivnuts) but also a way to route the plastic air tubing so it is not too close to the exhaust pipes.

I'm out of town for the next two weekends.

 

Put some thought into it but I would think routing through the frame rail and tying off to existing wires and such would work well

 

This sounds really cool.

I don't have any big things right now, but would love to replace my spark plugs since I hit 65k miles - owners manual says 60k, and some of the forums talk about it taking up to 4 hours if you have never done it before and all the stuff that has to be removed in order to do it. I don't know anything about the greasing points the owner's manual advises.

Also getting some tires/rims next month and want to scrape/repaint those before balance and mount. If my truck had calipers all the way around I would paint those red too!

I would also LOVE to figure out how to remove and paint the bevels around the dash, radio, and gear shift - black with red trim.

I will be picking up the Hella horns soon too!
