I agree. All I see are trds, everything on the lots are trds. I have yet to see in person an sr(5) locally. I think after first gen trd became the base model.

Yep. Just got back from running errands, and every single Tacoma I saw (which were plentiful as always here in SoCal) from all three gens were TRDs.

I genuinely wonder where the roughly 60% that aren't TRD's are. I mean seriously. lol

The one I don't see often is the SR. I think see the models I see most often are: SR5 -> OR -> Sport -> SR -> Pro
3rd gen Sports are pretty rare here, but OR's are a everywhere. I've only seen one Pro and it was rocking a bull bar

I'll occasionally see a base SR, but they're almost always work trucks. I can't remember the last time I saw an SR5, though. And here in San Diego, I'm surrounded by Tacomas at almost every stop light. lol

That's interesting. Tacos are everywhere here too, but I bet I've seen 3 or 4 SR5s already today. What do you see the most of there?

Overwhelmingly TRD Sports (like it's not even close), then TRD Offroads, then probably SR's as work trucks...then SR5's. Heck, I think I've seen almost as many Pro's as SR5's (not really, but probably not far off). haha

I even saw a fellow Sport with a Pro grill today, but no SR5's.

Obviously this is just what I've noticed and isn't scientific, though.

I feel like that's a bullshit number. Based on my "anecdotal" evidence of never seeing anything but trds. Unless isis has them all.

Me too. The past 14 years I've noticed this in all the places I've lived. San Diego. Yuma. Alabama. NY.

I actually just texted the guy who sold me my truck to see if he could point me in the right direction.

I live in WV and there are Tacomas everywhere. The majority are Sports and ORs. I see an occasional SR5 but rarely see a SR. I'm yet to see a Pro on the road but I've seen several Tundra and 4 Runner pros. Sports by far out number the ORs in the 3rd Gen.

I'm another one who would've bought an SR5 if it would have been available with a V6 and a manual transmission.

Just a little bit of insight. Although I do not work in the dealership industry my wife has for roughly 35 years.

This is oversimplified, but I think you will get the idea.

The differences we are seeing as far as model mix in my area vs your area boil down to historical sales trends. If folks where I live love to fish, hunt, wheel, and other activities that takes them off the pavement the 4x4 sales will climb (in theory)

Each region knows what trucks typically sell in which dealership. Same reason why dealership a has 35 Tacos arrive on their lot each week and another has 5 hit their lot each week. High volume dealers get a bigger allotment of what they sell than lower volume guys. The stores that don’t sell many Tacomas but sell the hell out of Camrys will get very few Tacomas and a proportionate amount of Camrys.

IF a dealer were to sell 1.5x my allotment on average each month this year you can bet they will get more on the preorders for the next year. By the same logic, if they sell more Pros than any other trims compared all the other nearby dealerships They will get more pros in the next allotment mix.

They know that SR's sell in Detroit or Springfield. and that ORs sell in Austin or Dallas.

Why did the regular cab leave production? Why is the 3rd gen all set witht eh OR/prerunner stance?

Same reason Chevy, Ford, and Dodge left the mid to small truck game. Sales trends. If does not sell why make it?

If a specific trim sells well where you live you can bet they (Toyota) are going to do everyting they can to fill that area with what sales have said is wanted.

I though I'd chime in here for my first post. I'm taking delivery of a 17' SR5 V6 with the tow package tomorrow. I specifically bought this truck tow my 18' pontoon boat. No intention of ever going off the hard surface.

    Congrats, and welcome!

Could've saved money and skipped the tow package but not everyone is this hardcore:

I have a welfare taco as well. Its a 2017 4x4 SB SR with tow package, cruise, and I added intermittent wipers myself. It has everything I need and it was exactly 30k out the door.
