Build order advice

Got a bone stock 17 TRD OR a few weeks back. Trying to decide how I want to go about making it look a bit beefier in the most budget friendly manner. Initially I have 500$ or so to play with until I save up more. Just want to go about the build order in the best way as to save myself wasted cash.

What order do you guys suggest one goes about doing it?

16" x 8" rims first so i can re use my stock tires that only have 1400 miles on them? Or keep saving and jump to 17" rims and get tires at the same time?

Lift kit? also what is a budget friendly way to lift it?

Go with spacers for now? other stuff later?

Just buy new larger tires to go on my stock rims, and get new rims later?

 

The most expensive way to do something is to do it twice. Personally I'd go with the 16" rims and run the stock tires for a while. Once you have enough saved up lift it properly and add bigger tires at the same time. I wouldn't do the spacer lift temporarily before a proper lift. You would just be throwing money away.

 

You should be able to sell the stock wheels and tires for what your new wheels are going to cost.

17" tires are usually cheaper (depending on a number of factors) than their 16" counterpart, so you may be able to change your rolling stock for less than you think.

Budget lift kit would be 5100s and an AAL.. check out @HeadStrong Off-Road! They won Vendor of the Year on this forum last year, and have great prices/service.

 

So you think the most economical approach would be, get the 16"x8" rims, re use my stock tires. then Save up for lift and tires.
Skip the wheel spacers.

 

I live in a very low population area in oklahoma. Unless someone is willing to drive 2-4 hours from the city to get them, its very hard to sell this type stuff around here. Most people have chevys, fords, or dodge.

It took me months to sell my old wheels, and I sold them at a substantial discount just to get them out of my garage. If you can afford the new wheels/tires, snag some.

You can always sell your factory set on here.. someone will be interested, may have to price them low since your location isn't easy, but it might work. 15 more posts and you're able to post in the marketplace, so you're well on your way.

 

I thought you were talking about a temporary spacer lift, not wheel spacers, my bad. And actually @T4RFTMFW brings up a good point. You can get almost as much out of your stock wheel/tire combo as the new set would cost. If you have free cash in another budget you could lift, add rims and tires of your choice, and sell your stock rims and tires for a net of not too much more than $500. The only problem is that the extra cash will be tied up until you sell the stock rims and tires.

Do they need to be sold as a pair, or would it be worth while, buying new rims, using stock tires, selling stock rims? I just cant eat the 1200$ tag of all new tires and rims anytime soon. But it may just be best I wait and do that.

 

Also, where ya guys buying your Tire/wheel combos online at?

 

They don't need to be sold as a pair. The rims by themselves will likely get you as much or more than your new rims cost. In that case you could buy the new rims with the $500, keep saving, and once you sell your stock ones add the money back into your build fund. Then once you have enough saved there go for tires/lift, etc. Your stock tires probably won't be worth anything by the time you get around to the rest of the build, but they likely wouldn't be anyway if you wait and save up the money to do it all at once. So I would say it comes down to if you want to change rim size or not. If you don't want to change, go ahead and swap the rims out, if you do want to change rim size, wait until you have more cash.

@JeffreyB Is there a real pro or con going 17 vs 16? or just personal choice of liking to see more rim? As noted above, someone said 17" tires are sometimes cheaper.
Also, in for some suggestions as to where to shop for tire/wheel packages. Right now i have found a set of Pro comp 01 series, black, for 330$ for the set, new, from JCwhitney. I feel i wont beat that price.

 

I honestly don't know much about the advantages and disadvantages. I personally like the more tire less rim look myself but aside from that I have no idea.
