This made me say WFT, and caused me to become upset. I just don't believe how stupid some people can be.

The nominal dimension back in the 80's was 3-5/8 × 1-5/8, specifically so that adding 3/8 drywall would yield a whole inch dimension.
Since when did it drop to 3-1/2 x 1-1/2?
I guess that I'll have to take a tape measure when I buy lumber.
It was bad enough when I had to rip oversize to match rough cut.

Or when they find out that pipes use the ID as their measurement, and tubing uses the OD.

Interesting. I don't remember it ever being more than 3.5x1.5? My home was built around 1980, I'll check one of the exposed studs tonight.

Also, where do you use 3/8" drywall? It's 1/2" in my home.

Yeah, they're literally right next to all of these.

Right, Sch 80 vs Sch 40 vs Sch 10, etc.

I've never seen 3/8" drywall used. We either used 5/8 or 1/2.

Following up -- just checked and studs in my 1981 build home are 3.5 x 1.5 -- they are definitely not 3-5/8 x 1-5/8

Edit: looks like the standard dropped to 3-1/2 x 1-1/2 in 1970

    I don't know about 3/8".

When I was in the construction industry we would us 1/4" Sheetrock on office renos with cheap clients. Used it a lot to cover up outdated office building entranceses where the client didn't want to pay for demo. We would slap on liquid nail and cover up old wood panels, marble, and granite.
