I have only 1660 miles and this is my 6th month, and the manual racommend to change it after 6 month or 5000 miles, do you thinks it is really necessary to do it?Remember that I have less than 1700miles

I have two other pleasure vehicles at home that don't get much miles on them in any given year. The one (jeep) might get less than 1,000 and the other (vette) gets less than 5,000 miles per year. They both have synthetic oils in them.

I change the oil & filter once a year regardless of mileage.

If either of them reach 5K miles before the year - I change it at 5K.

It sounds like you don't drive it much- So you can prolly stick to turning it over now and again to keep the engine wet and changing it @ a year or at 5K.

I changed mine for the first time at 1300 miles. It actually looked dirty for only having 1300 miles. Replaced it with Mobil1 5W-30 oil and a Mobil1 extended life filter. I plan on changing it again at 5K and every 5K after that. The engine seems to be running well on synthetic.

If your engine oil ISN'T dirty something is wrong. It's got detergent and chemicals to collect the junk from your engine- If it's clean then it's not doing it's job.

Every 5K is a good plan- or once a year if you are running the engine to keep it wet.

The first day that I had my truck I checked the oil and it was so clear I couldn't hardly see it on the the stick. At 1300 it was almost black, seem excessive for so low miles. May be because of the break in period or the type of oil Toyota uses in new engines.

Asking my opinion, I would change it with Mobil1 Syn & OEM filter, then log it in my truck's maintenance book with receipts, but thats just me. Thats taking in consideration that you have less than 1700 miles and at a 6 month mark. IMO why mess around at this rate you only spend $30 a year on changes!

If this is a new truck, I'd DEFINITElY change the oil now. Although it isn't officially recommended anymore, IMO it is a good practice to do the first oil change at 1,000 - 1,500 miles to get the metal chips and other manufacturing stuff out of the engine quickly.

i agree!!! and if you want to...go synthetic. longer change intervals with it, and mobil1 is some great oil. as is the pennzoil platinum.

i'm embarrassed to say i took my taco in for it's first oil change..and at 3000+ miles..
i just didn't have the time to do it myself that day, had an errand i could run at the honda shop next door while it was going on.

took one look at my odometer and they actually turned me away- friendly like though. said that it truely wouldn't need it until 5k.
i was kinda pissed because i was willing to pay to let them do it, but was kinda floored by their honesty and actions.
this was a small local shop, not the toyo dealer.

they had already vaccumed my floor and checked my filters and filled my wiper fluid though...and they let me leave with all that for free :D
so then the next weekend i did it myself anyway.
