It's probably not helping, what size are they?. The turd gen also has a very different tq/ hp curve than the 4.0 in the 2nd gen. You likely just need to press the skinny pedal down more and you'll be fine. It's made to make it's power/ tq at a higher rev range than you are used to.

They are 265/75/16.... I think only about .5" diameter larger than stock.... but obviously much heavier.
Yes, I have read that the "TURD GEN" makes it's power at higher RPM. I'm just not used to having to smash the pedal to the floor pan to pull out into traffic.:burnrubber:
I doesn't help either that I watch the Actual MPG on the dash.

This thread is really making me wanna spend the extra cash on another set of ko2s instead of nittos. I'm just praying I'll be able to get double the miles than I did on the last set. Plus going from a load range E to a C should make a dramatic difference.

Are the Nittos load range E after a certain size like the BFGs?

not sure how well the C's hold up like the E's do offroad, but the C's will be much better on the street. And help your mpg's a bit. E loads (especially the KO2s) are really heavy tires.

hmmmm.. Decisions decisions. Now the Falken Wildpeak AT3/W just came to mind and they're much cheaper.. can't get over the looks of ko2s though. The E range tires came on the truck so I'm used to the rough ride and bad mpg's

    Wheels, tires, mud flaps, etc.
I switched out the OEM 18" Dunlops for 18" KO2's in Load E and put 35000 miles on them. I rotated them every 7500 miles and they still had tons of tread left. In fact, they had enough tread left that I sold the rims and tires together to a local Taco owner. Just last week I picked up the 17" SEMA wheels and put Load C KO2's on in the 265/70R17 size.

I think over the 35k with the Load E's I probably lost 2mpg the whole time. Too early to tell if the new Load C's have improved that and I'll post back after a few tanks of gas. I do have some rubbing on the driver's side mud flap which was easy to fix with a Dremel and some JB Weld.

I didn't think the Load E's made the truck feel weighted down. In fact, I thought they rode pretty nicely. However, 10 extra pounds per tire of rotational mass has to have some effect that I didn't need. I'm sure real off-road guys love Load E for the toughness but I spent 95% of my time on the road and probably didn't need them. I was just quick to replace the OEM tires and the BFG's only came in a Load E for the 18" wheel so I scooped them up because I wasn't ready to buy rims at the same time.

My impatience at the time cost me some gas money over the years but I didn't buy this truck for the mpg's. We'll see how the Load C's do from here...

I started working at a BFG rubber plant in 1974 in a rural area in central IL. We didn't make the tires, just rubber products. In '89, I bought an '88 Chevy K1500 that had 33" tires. Our plant would have sales every now and then where a BFG truck would come to the parking lot and install tires for us free of charge, plus the cost of the tires was unbelievable. Later, they quit the truck in the parking lot, but the sales were still great, and everyone was riding on BFG's. We would call in our order and they would be delivered UPS, then have them mounted locally.

Unfortunately, the factory changed hands, and we lost out on our tire deals.

Same here, my truck came with them when I got it over a year ago. I got used to the ride but it can be pretty rough, especially if you don't have the right PSI in the tires for the street (the dealership put 40 psi in my E load KO2s when I got it and the rear end wanted to swing out sideways it was so bouncy), so I usually keep them at 32-35 psi.

E loads again are wayyyy overkill for a Tacoma unless your towing/hauling a lot of weight, or spend substantial time offroad...I tend to venture pretty far out when I do go wheeling and the last thing I want to worry about having to do is deal with a flat tire on a rocky incline out in the middle of nowhere. The E-load KO2s with 10ply sidewalls hold up to quite a bit, I'm not sure what the ply rating on the Falkens is but I've heard that their sidewalls are weaker. That said, I've also wheeled with a couple guys that run Falkens and they've had no issues with them. They're a sharp looking A/T tire as well.

I know the Goodyear Duratrac's have haters here but I've always thought they looked awesome. I stick to what I trust though, and KO2s have never let me down.

I like them white letters out personally, but I think it looks better that way on older trucks (1st gens)...black letters out on newer trucks looks good IMO.

Also sort of depends on the build, I like white letters out on trucks with a utilitarian aesthetic versus black letters out on a cleaner, sleeker looking build

All my trucks have had the white letters out...until I got the Tacoma. No white letters, and it looks pretty good. Don't know yet if the new tires in the future will have white letters out or not.topper (1)2.jpg

    Yes...

Are you an adult? How about you do what you think looks best? If you want to go based on what a forum of random people from around the country think is best put up a poll and go based on the votes...

Main culprit? No...the main culprit is the way the 3rd gen was engineered to meet EPA standards. But yeah, the E load tires are going to noticeably slow you down a tad...if you go with C's or P's instead you should feel a difference. Your gen 2 will always feel faster though.

    Thanks for the input.
My wallet tells me I'm just going to have to stick with these load range "E".
Maybe when it's time to replace them, I will be able to find some good AT's in a "C".

There are some good options out there, unfortunately you're limited though if you want to stick with KO2s depending on the size you want.

Yeah... I have run some milder AT's on my '11 DCSB and got really good MPGs, traction, and life out of them.
They were Firestone Destination AT's.... got 70,000 miles out of them. (I do a good bit of highway miles)
But they were not nearly as aggressive as KO2's.

You can get the ko2 in 275 70 16, just a tad wider and taller than stock but I think shorter than the 265 75 16s. This would help some because being a bit shorter you save some gearing AND they are load D!
