Fair enough! I don't mind reading peoples opinion, but when the comments rest on that thin line or crosses it, its too much. I am sure there are going to be some gay members on here who would be extreamly offended by some other the comments/slang used. It creates a negative environment.

this statement is wrong, homosexuality is not a "learned" behavior... its something that you are born with, it is no more "learned" than heterosexuality....

Your statement also suggest the opposite (which you obviously will disagree with) that heterosexuals can be taught to be gay, which is also wrong!

Heres the thing. I understand the effect on camaraderie and all but thats not the point. The point is that its discriminatory to suppress a particular set of people based on a fact they cannot change. Whether they a different race, creed, ethnicity, or sexual orientation should not be the limiting factor on whether or not they can serve their country openly and free of fear, prosecution, etc...

Finally, by allowing gays to serve openly they can gain the dutiful rights for their families, which may be same-sex. If we are going to permit same-sex marriage (which is a another topic) than gays should be able to serve openly.

Of all the auguments I've heard, ONLY the camaraderie part makes any sense but should that limit or reduce the rights of another fellow American? NO! We will adapt and learn to accept gays into the military as we did with women, blacks, japanese, russians, etc etc etc

I think we should keep things the way they are. We are at war and now is not the time to start changing things and causing social issues within our nations ranks. If they want to let gays serve in the military then so be it, but I think it should wait until we are out of Afghanistan.

ok Bro...you are on a fine line questioning my service to my country... Who are you to talk about doing my job, Have you ever saluted a body of a fallen comrade, or see the vehicle in front of you blown up by an IED, or see tracer rounds flying over your head while the "bad guys" are walking IDF to your position. Now I am second guessing starting this thread cause I am asking civilians about a situation they cannot fathom. men joke about how close that mortor round or IED came to killing them..its part of War. But untill you experiance it, you will never know. Some one Lock this thread its getting out of hand.

theres always going to be something... whether its afghanistan or something else, why wait... if we took this approach we would be waiting for everything.

I have several friends who are gay... and I feel that as long as they don't make a pass on me then who cares... but I also say the same thing about ugly big girls.

why? Is being gay a handicap that makes them incapable of flying a fighter jet, carrying an M4, piloting a ship?

With that attitude, black people would still only be allowed to be cooks!

PS: I think this is a great thread... better than the 100s of the which is better TRD OR or TRD sport, its very interesting to see my fellow brothers views...

well maybe in the navy u accept that kind of thing bc ur prolly a pog (personel other than grunt) so u sit behind a desk and float around on ur ship while we r out there fighting and dying when my life is on the line i do not want someone with even the least bit of femininity to have to call in a 9 line CASEVAC or an airstrike the reason they shouldnt be allowed in is bc they have the characteristics of a female in the mind and when the shit hits the fan females run (not always but 99.9% of the time) so that is my logic sometimes you squids just need to know your place we do not have the same mindset thats why me and my brothers laugh at the little girls department of the navy as we shop in the mens.

If you don't know why your being shot at or shooting at people, I AM questioning your service. You're fighting for the rights of others to be equal.

Not just when you say so, but always, in all circumstances.

I'm sorry you've had to salute a fallen comrade (after 9/11, as a NYC firefighter, my brother spent the next 12 weeks pulling his fallen comrades out of the rubble. We attended many of those funerals together), but you're clearly not equipped to understand what you're fighting for.

You started this thread for exactly this reason - you knew before you hit the submit button what the different opinions would be. We live in a country that values differences in opinion and allows them equal air time.

I hate to say it, but if you don't like it, there are other places to live.

    Buck up, fella.

This is probably the most absurd post in this thread. I'm as hetero as it gets but I'll never believe that being gay has a switch that can be turned off and on at will. Why would anyone choose to be in in a group that is so highly ridiculed, that is denied so many rights and feared and hated by so many when they can just flick the switch and turn it off. I don't think it's that easy.

    Don't ask & don't tell is perfect.

It's none of our damn business whether they're gay or not. It's none of our governments business whether they're gay or not. Being gay does not prevent them from passing any and all other requirements to be in the military.

As long as they can fulfill the job to Military expectations - the same expectations that ALL soldiers are expected of...

To me, they're a damn American citizen and they're serving our country and protecting our freedom. That's a lot more than some of us can say.
What have you done for your country?

If you're applying for a regular job, businesses aren't allowed to ask you discriminatory questions and they're not allowed to discriminate when making their decisions. Why would the government be allowed to discriminate againest them?

Using someone else experaince is not you own. I can sit all day saying my brother/dad/buddysister/cousin....but untill you know that feeling first hand. But as i can see, that you have already committed to your argument...and i respect that, and that is ONE of the many reasons i am over here, Cause of that freedom that america is about...the same goes with people protesting at soldiers/marines/airmen/sailors funerals, no matter hoe much i hate it.

For Pete's sake, you're fighting (and apparently dying) for Freedom. Not just a few freedoms, not just the ones you're willing to give out, not just the convenient ones, or the ones we all agree on unanimously (ever get 3 people together and try to get them to agree?).

    FREEDOM.

Of speech, of religion, of race, of sexual orientation, of political position, etc.

Sorry you're getting all worked up confusing the sacrifice you've been asked to make with the reason you're making it...

As far as what you're fighting for, you're right, you don't need me to tell you what it is. You seem to have it all figured out.
