All your worries have been posted ad naseum here since fall of 2015. It wouldn't have been hard to be aware of them in advance.

Searching each individual concern will get you some reasonable solutions, including TSBs, recalls, modifications and driving techniques.

You have to learn how to drive, It has enough power. You have to anticipate any grades coming up, press slightly on the gas pedal so the transmission knows u want it to down shift to 5th. At just over 2000 rpm truck will hold 5th on 5% grades. I live in the north west with lot of canyon driving, Truck has no issues going up 7%+ grades when u get it to downshift before the grade starts. Lot of people wake up middle of the hill and stomp on the gas pedal.

Congrats on a great looking ride!
Stay focus on why you bought it and what you like about it and ignore the detractors here. They are a small but vocal minority set out to make your driving miserable. It can take 1200+ miles for trans to learn and adjust to you and all the new parts, so just relax and you'll see day by day improvements.

Around town or speeds below 45mph, shift it towards you into S mode and watch it dance around and do its thing. You can also use the ETC afterburner when passing, up steep hills, towing or just for FuN!

    Enjoy!
    Cheers!

    Congrats on the new truck!

It has taken getting used to, but I really enjoy driving the truck now. Mileage has improved over the 6k miles I've put on mine. Let it break in a bit.

As someone stated above, consider getting a "shift-sense pro" unit for the truck...using it, I don't even think about how the truck shifts now. The goofiness of the transmission is almost completely remedied for me.

If you don't want to invest in a shift-sense, try this.....when in town and you will only be driving about 50mph or less, drive is s4. If heading on the highway and will be doing 70 or less, bump it to s5. If cruising for long periods around 70mph or higher, bump it to s6. This will help with some of the trans goofiness. I never drive in "d" anymore.

    Enjoy the new truck!

The dealer stuck their name on the tailgate with a chrome logo piece :angrygirl:
And... they stuck a dealership plate into the hitch receptacle. I don't like that stuff.
Isn't there usually a plug/plate for the hitch receptacle from the factory with Toyota logo on it ?

Use a heatgun to warm up the logo, and run a piece of fishing line between the logo and paint... it will come right off. The clean up any residue with rubbing alcohol. (Search debadging for other people's tips).

The transmission should settle down after the "Learning process" for your driving style. You truck should have the latest transmission TSB update.

I'd make them remove it! I have never been a rolling advertisement for a car dealer, and yes you can get a Toyota hitch cover.

I know I could buy one. Just wondering if it came with hitch cover from the factory because if it did, I'm going to call dealer today and tell them to send it to me.

Hair dryer or Harbor Freight heat gun on low and it will come right off. Unless the dealer riveted it on there (seen it  but fortunately never experienced it)

My new vehicle wasn't home for an hour before the dealer logo came off.

    I hate that crap too.

Nope, they want money for everything, The salesman should give you one though seeing how you just bought the truck.

so why did you buy it with all of these short comings you could have passed on purchasing it if it didn't meet the standards your looking for:notsure: so you paid $40k ++ hoping it will improve?? doesn't make sense

You complain about gas mileage yet the first thing you do is put on a taller, wider, heavier and more aggressive LT tires, that is why your gas mileage sucks (and ride is worse than it should be). Don't get me wrong many are guilty as the BFG KO2's are just to cool to not put on before leaving the dealer, heaven forbid you get caught out in public on stock tires in a 4x4 pickup truck!

Let me try this again... I love the truck.. and yes, it does have a couple of shortcomings in my opinion.
I have owned Toyota trucks since the 80's, and they have served me exceptionally well (317k on Gen 2 and going strong). Just can't see myself driving a Colorado, or Titan, even if it clicked all the boxes. I've just had too many trouble free miles from Toyotas. What can I say... I am a loyalist. My point on the powertrain is that if you are buying a new truck, 12 years newer than your last, you usually expect it to be a bit stronger (in this horsepower crazy universe we are currently in), and expect the shifting to be improved/ efficient. Rant over
