Just saying man, sounds like a bit of a pipe dream if you think law to a reasonable extent is not going to be sexy. The thing is people started getting motivated about law back when the economy first took a dump. After that many started to entertain going to get a law degree, come time around the 2009-2010 era it was starting to get pretty filled. That's when I first realized that it was challenging enough for guys to get a job that many were getting screwed after not landing their first job in six months. Because of this their loans started to take effect while still trying to get by at a restaurant/mall career in the interim. Good thing in your case is you have solidified a job already and arnt making the initial hustle like others have.

The other issue is law is the gentleman's career in that many get hired due to their family heritage, unless you got a killer gpa/good school combo. The rest are many times doing volunteer stuff to get experience up to get in the door. My roommate did that coupled with doing very cheap courthouse representations until he eventually made the right contacts to move forward. My one buddy is making a killing in the DC area because he was the valedictorian at UVA when he graduated and landed his dream job, but I would not say folks like him come across too often. I think it is safe to say in law though, unless you have your own clients, for the most part you don't have too much control over your career just yet.

Most of my buddies work for small firms, but even still when they started out very few had any leadway to clients on their own. Hopefully this is a sign that the law field isnt as saturated as it used to be? Depending on their company it was traditionally about 2-3 years before they really had their own clients. Some are DAs for stuff which they are the exception as they have way more clients than they ever could want and their work never ends. The government guys it varies depending on what the job is and their responsibilities as some barely do anything while others are constantly watching project protocol and their personnel. The few big firms where the guy gets a decent position out of the get go, they tend to see a good amount of court room time.

I hear ya on that...I sort of have that lifestyle with always being in front of a pc. Where it saves me though is I can work on programs, drawings, calcs, instead of the run of the mill spreadsheet stuff that can really hurt the eyes after a while. Every job has its up and down though.

Sorry for your buddies' experiences, I hope mine is different. Luckily for me I have a killer GPA (top 10 in my class) from a decent school, and have already been working in the legal field for 10 years. I am not saying it isn't going to be a grind, but, my first choice for my legal work will not be drafting power of attorneys.

Very true, they all have their ups and downs. There will still be days that I hate my job as an attorney. There is a reason why so many people leave the profession after only a few years.

Solid man, I would hope with 10 years of experience in the legal area that you don't need to be doing POA crap either. I think that was my roommate's biggest frustration was he was ranked in the top ten as well, but his pool of people trying to get jobs were guys who were close to 40 with 20+ years of experience, big wig relatives, Harvard peeps that kept beating him out. As you likely know, there arnt many positions for stuff when they are available. He did not have a friendly start to say the least. Almost became a cop because of it.

That is interesting because I took the opposite route - I almost became a cop, but after working for a Sherriff's office in Louisiana, decided I didn't like the politics.

Any firm will hire a Harvard grad over me though, no doubt about that.

Yea he was eager to just get out of the political bullshit of being frustrated of people saying he didn't have enough "law" experience. He considered going the cop route partially just to change the billing on his loans and the idea of having something work out right. He is a government lawyer, reserve jag now but originally he wanted to be a full fledged navy jag. He spent 4 years trying before giving up, considering his old man is a retired ady, he still is salty about the navy.

You should be good, the fact that you got a spot to be is def a leg up. Unless you do something crazy to terminate your employment prematurely I think you will be just fine.

So I decide to embrace the Friday "funday" mentality and took full advantage of the Harris Teeter pizza of the month which is their sausage pizza for 7.99. I conquered my half while my co worker still has some work to do on his, but damn its going to make a lazy ride home today.

Hey guys if you haven't already seen this - This is the same guy who is doing the bedslide group buy. Really simple, you just pick out what you are looking for on autoanything and hit him up, you buy direct from the site using the quote he sent you. He can do deals on some things, on others he can't, but every little bit counts.
